Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 22, 2011 2:29 pm Hi Just noticed that our builder does not provide a concrete slab for the front porch area. This seems a bit strange? What does everyone else think? Should we get them to put some concrete there? Building ??? with ??? Re: Front porch not included in concrete slab? 2Nov 22, 2011 4:24 pm Our builder didn't provide a porch because we are organizing our own driveway. Is it in the house specs? Re: Front porch not included in concrete slab? 3Nov 22, 2011 4:39 pm No, house specs do not include porch or driveway which is fine - just wondering whether it's a good idea to get it done anyway? Building ??? with ??? Re: Front porch not included in concrete slab? 4Nov 22, 2011 4:55 pm I guess it depends on what sort of porch you have, and whether you were planning on getting any special concreting done i.e. coloured etc. Personally I think it's a good idea to get done by the builder with the slab. I assume then it is part of the slab, rather than an add on. It's also there from day 1 when you move in too. Our house didn't come with concrete to the porch, we added concrete to our alfresco and they included the front porch also with that addition. I think you're right, that it will depend on what we want to do there - at the moment we haven't given much thought to what the driveway and porch will look like I'll have to take a closer look at porches the next time we visit a display home! However it is not poured as part of the slab but is being done afterwards. Much cheaper than doing it separately later. My front porch is tiled, which I like and looks very nice. So even if you get your builder to do it, it will be poored seperately. If your doing your own driveway i'd leave it and do it then. You may just need to have an idea what you want so termite protection can be installed accordingly. Cheers Re: Front porch not included in concrete slab? 10Nov 25, 2011 8:29 am If there is a structural reason for it to be included as part of the slab, like for ground floor supports(if you have 2 story) or your facade, then the slab engineers will usually include it. Otherwise they will leave it off for you to modify it as you see fit, like putting up decking/verandah or as part of your driveway pour. Re: Front porch not included in concrete slab? 11Nov 25, 2011 8:39 am Front porch and alfresco both poured with the house slab here. They missed the slab outside the laundry door and it was poured when the rainwater tank/HWS slab was poured later. Driveway wasn't included and has been a pita to get someone to quote and actually be prepared to do the job. Finally got someone lined up but the rain is causing the latest delay. Both porch and alfresco will be tiled with an exterior grade tile that is as close as possible in colour to the polished porcelain tiles in the living areas. Living on black sandy soil I wanted every exterior door to open onto tiles, much easier to maintain. Re: Front porch not included in concrete slab? 12Nov 26, 2011 6:50 pm we are building a double storey home and we asked for the slab to be extended to include a porch, we did this because I noticed that there wasn't one in the drawings and questioned it. The thing it is unless you purposely look for it in the slab drawing you wouldn't of noticed it. hubby, kids and me all waiting for the Amberlea Site Cut 27 September 2011 https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=46637 http://www.dscml.com/ hey there! π so, itβs kinda common for standard drawer depths to be around 500mm since most cabinets use this size to fit the usual runners… 3 18682 The concreter will take and reuse.
