Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 18, 2011 9:48 pm Our plan went to council a couple of weeks ago and we were just informed by council (via builder) that an Arborist report needed to be done to address the long term impact the proposed development plan (our new house) would have on a gum tree. The gum tree is on the edge of our land. To be more specific, we share the gum tree with our neighbour. Our current driveway is very narrow and we have to drive very careful to avoid hitting the gum tree. In our new plan, we did not propose to move the position of the driveway but we made it much wider so we have enough space to drive through and will not drive close to the tree. Our builder gave us a quote of $790 to do the Arborist report. Is this reasonable? Anyone can recommend any certificater who charges less? We can send pictures of the tree and also the development plan so that the certificater does not need to come to our place. I also have some other questions: 1. If we move the driveway slightly towards the other side, do we still need to do the report? 2. If the report shows that building a new house will have impact on the gum tree, can we ask for removing the tree? Or we have to change our plan? Many thanks!! Re: Cost of Arborist Report 3Nov 19, 2011 11:20 pm We had a report prepared in January - there was a base charge of about $400 which included a certain number of trees then $50 per additional tree. I think $790 sounds a lot. You will probably need the report no matter where your driveway goes if the council thinks its a significant tree. Hi MrsChatz, Would you mind letting me know the person that you used if you are in Sydney as well? Many thanks 7 12016 We were lucky in that our old house was so small (86 square metres) compared to the new house, they were able to take enough readings around the old backyard house before… 8 37150 Fair Trading can issue orders to rectify and complete but once the matter goes to NCAT these orders are automatically vacated.
