Browse Forums Building A New House Re: New build @ Mitchelton (QLD) Deciding on house colours.. 3Jan 17, 2012 3:48 pm Did you mean deep ocean for the roof? Os is Ocean blue a Resene colour? I would tend to go with a lighter neutral colour for the garage to match the other colours. Especially if your roof is a dark blue. And with the right side being surfmist which is quite light, you need a lighter colour on the left side to balance out. Re: New build @ Mitchelton (QLD) Deciding on house colours.. 5Jan 17, 2012 6:14 pm atom_ute i was thinking more along having one side light and the other dark That's what you want to avoid as it splits the facade in two. Have you decided on a colour for the front door? Re: New build @ Mitchelton (QLD) Deciding on house colours.. 6Jan 18, 2012 10:15 am Hey d@n, Good advice there - appreciated Door that we have chosen is below - we will also be having the sidelights and a highlight as well. Timber will feature within the house - we have chosen bamboo as the flooring for the living areas I should mention that we will have a rendered besser block fence with wood panels across the front right side of the house to give us a front courtyard. So essentially you will not be able to see the lower floor weatherboard from the street. Right and Left elevations so that you can get an idea of how it works together.. Right elevation Left elevation Re: New build @ Mitchelton (QLD) Goodbye trees!! 7Feb 14, 2012 12:24 pm Finally had a chance on the weekend to cut down the 11 trees on our block - had to put this task off for the last 3 weeks due to the horrible weather we've been having in Brisbane. 11 trees in total - builder advised that we just had to leave 1 metre of the stump out of the ground - excavator would take care of the rest. Took 3 hrs to chop it all down - was going to hire a chainsaw from Kennards ($103), but ended up buying a cheapie from Bunnings for $119 - it did an amazing job. Looks like a cyclone has ripped though the block! Anyhow, we underestimated the amount of green waste that would be generated and we filled up our 6m skip after two trees. Getting quotes this week to have the remainder removed - after fighting with the bougainvillea I'm rather over it. Things are progressing - hopefully we will have construction start in mid March, all going well! Re: New build @ Mitchelton (QLD) Goodbye trees!! 8Apr 16, 2012 11:24 am I think I was being overly optimistic about a mid March start date - especially when the DW loves to make revisions to the plan. Anyhow, after a few 'minor' changes we got our working drawings back which we have signed off on (thank goodness). No more changing now. So the final plans are below - for me it was a bit like 'spot the difference'. For those who think that they've had many changes to their plan - this is based on revision 'I'. Front elevation Rear elevation Left elevation Right elevation Ground floor First floor Exterior colours Not 100% certain what the wife has chosen, but I believe that the following is reasonably correct. Sticking with ColorBond colours. Front Roof - Surfmist Garage render - Woodland Grey Weatherboard - Dune Front block fence - Woodland Grey Side Ground render - Surfmist Top weatherboard - Dune Inside Lexcicon Tiles I can't put my finger on pictures of all the tiles but here we go: Feature tile in bathrooms Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Floors - Charcoal Walls - Some kind of off white Pool/alfresco - Gray Bamboo Flooring Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Plans have been in council for the past week - 3 more weeks to go. Apparently there is a 'build over sewer' that needs to be taken into consideration. Once out of council, contract says completion in 165 days (including rain days) - so hoping for a dry Winter Re: New build @ Mitchelton (QLD) Phew! Finally in council.. 9Apr 30, 2012 1:21 pm This is going to be one amazing house Atom! I love Colorbond colours and you've chosen the same as what we orginally chose at colour selections, however I've changed my mind a number of times since then My hubby grew up around the Mitchelton area. Are you far from Brookside SC? Our building thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=53911 Re: New build @ Mitchelton (QLD) Phew! Finally in council.. 10Apr 30, 2012 1:38 pm Thanks Dream House Colours definitely aren't my forte - so this decision has remained in the domain of my better half. Trying to stay as neutral as possible and because we are building in an older established area (existing houses are 1950's), we have tried to assimilate the house as best as possible. I think that we are pretty safe with the above and charcoal/greys seem to be 'in' at the moment. Mitchie is such a great area - my parents grew up in Mitchelton so we know it pretty well. We are about a 5 min drive from Brookside and the same from the Great Western shopping centre. So smack bang in the middle of it all. Was actually just about to update this thread - just got a call, the block is scheduled to be cut on Tuesday 8th May!!! So not long now. Re: New build @ Mitchelton (QLD) Phew! Finally in council.. 11Apr 30, 2012 2:19 pm Great plan for that site atom. How much did it end up costing you to remove all the trees- I assume you got a mobile chipper guy? I'm about to look at clearing my overgrown block too. Wonder if it's cheaper to buy a chainsaw and cut myself or just get someone to do the lot. Build Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=57639 Re: New build @ Mitchelton (QLD) Phew! Finally in council.. 12Apr 30, 2012 2:40 pm Hey Plucka, I ended up buying a 'cheapie' Ozito brand chainsaw for Bunnings - It cost me $130, $10 more than if I was to hire one from Kennards for 24hrs. I also hired a 6m3 skip - big mistake as I had seriously filled it to the brim after cutting down two trees. The Ozito did a brilliant job - all up it took two of us around 6hrs to fell around thirteen 3-4 metre trees. We were going to do a couple of dump runs, but by this time I'd had enough and was willing to pay anything for someone else to clear it all.. (believe me the picture above is deceptive) Anyhow ended up calling a few aborists for a quote and went with a local guy @ Arana Hills. $275 (including gst) to chip and remove all the green rubbish. According to the guy I had done all the hard work - would have cost about $2500 for him to do everything so well worth the effort. The aborist just on sells the stuff as mulch so its a win win situation for him. If you aren't afraid of a little hard work can definitely be a cheaper option. Re: New build @ Mitchelton (QLD) Site booked in to be cut 13Apr 30, 2012 2:54 pm Thanks mate, My block is covered in trees, probably 40+ but they are all small regrowth stuff <5m tall so I should be able to DIY so I think the Bunnings cheapo is the go. Build Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=57639 Re: New build @ Mitchelton (QLD) Site booked in to be cut 14Apr 30, 2012 3:11 pm Great plans atom, Love the privacy of the master bedroom upstairs and the split level design Will follow your thread closely, I'm in Brisbane (northside) and just commencing on a knock down (likely removal) rebuild project. What did you decide on material for that square kitchen bench-top? Nice to hear you are using the same builder as your last build must be a good one. Keep us posted on your progress. Re: New build @ Mitchelton (QLD) Site booked in to be cut 15Apr 30, 2012 3:51 pm jasper12 Love the privacy of the master bedroom upstairs and the split level design What did you decide on material for that square kitchen bench-top? Nice to hear you are using the same builder as your last build must be a good one. Cheers Jasper, Split level was more out of necessity due to the slope of the block - worked out much cheaper building this way instead of putting in retaining. We were a bit concerned having the master bedroom separate (with potential future babies ) however the 'study' will double as a nursery when the time comes... The square island benchtop surface is SmartStone (Astral). We went with SmartStone mainly because the cabinet maker advised that it is supplied in larger block sizes - therefore better value for money based on the amount we were after. Subsequently all the kitchen benchtops, benchtop in the butlers pantry, benchtops in the bar and laundry and all vanities will be SmartStone which is a little opulent, but its costing the same as if we went with Essa or Caesar. Good luck with your knock down - we were fortunate enough for the hard work to already have been done for us. Once the block is cut, the next job will be getting the pool excavated - hoping for some fine weather the next couple of weeks Re: New build @ Mitchelton (QLD) Site booked in to be cut 20May 02, 2012 1:11 pm atom_ute (because for some reason those who haven't built before or aren't in the process of - just don't get it.....) Yes! I couldn't understand why my family and friends weren't interested in all the details like I was, or even general building stuff, but of course now I realise. Thank god for H1!
