Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 09, 2011 8:55 pm Our builder wants to charge us $860 to paint our skirts, archs and internal doors gloss white. The inclusions state "one colour for internal walls, skirting, architraves and internal doors". I don't understand what the big deal is, as it is a different paint type anyway and they have to paint it seperately regardless of what colour we choose. All we want is Wattly Flokati on the walls, and gloss white trim. So my questions are: Do all builders charge this variation? Why does it cost extra? Is $860 an exorbitant amount? Re: Upgrade cost for gloss white trim?? 2Nov 10, 2011 1:20 pm We are paying that too. Originally it was going to cost $560 but as we are having the colour cieling white for the doors, skirts and trims they need to do 3 coats instead of the normal 2 so the price went up by $300. I dont see why they should charge that much (slight difference of the cost of paint and in our case a bit more for the 3rd coat - which probably wont get done anyway). The selections lady told us to do it ourself after handover rather then pay extra but there is no way i am painting ever again and it would have cost way more then that to pay a painter down the track. I would only have been charged extra if I had a couple of different gloss colours. --------------------- Sent from my mobile device so please excuse my typing missed cakes. ~ trying to build our dream home by the sea ~ Re: Upgrade cost for gloss white trim?? 4Nov 10, 2011 7:46 pm ESB That is a bit rough, our builder allowed for the different gloss colour because as you said it is different paint. I would only have been charged extra if I had a couple of different gloss colours. Yeah, I just can't understand the logic to it!! Our main paint colour is an off white anyway, so they wouldn't require any extra coats. I am thinking it is just a money grab by the painters We have decided to just go with the same colour as the walls. I refuse to hand over that amount of money for something that won't cost them anymore in time or money. * jas * The selections lady told us to do it ourself after handover rather then pay extra but there is no way i am painting ever again and it would have cost way more then that to pay a painter down the track. It's not exactly what I want, but I don't want to do it after handover either, so I can live with the decision. I'm with you on that one! I have done enough painting in our current reno to last a lifetime, I don't want to do it in a brand new house!! 7 3005 Hi, planning on using the attached stone pieces in my bathroom.
