Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 08, 2011 3:29 am I am about to choose a Home Builder to build our new home. I hear so many "horror" stories about builders and building companies, that I feel I need help. Does anyone know if there are any companies who will act on my behalf to watch the building company from start to finish, to check the work, to make sure I am getting a fair deal, good quality work and getting what I am paying for? Re: New homebuilders advocate 2Nov 08, 2011 8:25 am Domus we are in a very similar position. As far as I can tell (so far) it is in our interest to have an Inspector to look at the place at the various building stages. At least at each progress payment stage. Our building Co. does have an "independent" inspector, but as I said to them, he is paid by you, so I would feel equally comfortable having someone do the same, being paid by me !!! I have been quoted $159-$200 per visit by a licensed building Inspector. Re: New homebuilders advocate 3Nov 08, 2011 8:46 am Hmmm does that figure include the report as well - the going rate for an inspection with a detailed report is around the $500 mark each (give or take $50 - $100 depending on who it is and the inspection(s) you want). There's a thread in here on independent inspectors somewhere on the first page or two in this forum which lists a few popular ones. Some people apparently have nothing better to do than comment on other people's sigs. Re: New homebuilders advocate 4Nov 08, 2011 5:36 pm Not sure, now you ask, Although I did set out what I envisaged i.e. check out the progress payment detail against what has been built and let me know if ok to pay... Will be interested to find out more detail in the near future. A person needs to be licensed to offer financial advice. Surely the accountant you use would have been chosen for his/her expertise in this field. Have you asked your… 1 6683 Is there a building permit? RU in Victoria?
