Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 05, 2011 10:19 pm Hi, Im Jasmin and my husband and I (and kids) are building our new home. We are building through Hickinbotham - Belmont (slightly modified) we have extended the garage to fit 3 cars, made kitchen slightly bigger, added linen cupboard and removed 3rd toilet and turned into store room. We are in country SA so have been quite slow to get going. We signed in February 2011 and have just been released to start as of yesterday (council were really quick even though we have an encumberence re septic systems). They hope that we get the slab done in about 4 weeks and have said that finish time will be anywhere from April to September, we are currently living in a rental so the sooner the better. Pantry is huge Will you build a pergola or something behind the garage, thats a huge area Hope things start moving quickly for you Re: Jas build thread 3Nov 06, 2011 1:01 pm Thanks, Im in love with my pantry. My priorities were BIG pantry, store room and walk through wardrobe and every plan we found that I liked i had to alter to fit those things in, well until i found the Belmont which had everything we wanted and only had to make minimal changes. The only other thing on my list was a wall niche in the showers but hickinbotham dont do it so i will see how hard it is to do once the house is finished. We will be putting in a massive gable pergola behind the garage up to the end of the games room, so it will make the house look like a square if that makes sense? and then we will have a pool (if theres enough money left) on the right (we have almost 7 metres from the edge of the garage to the fence line) so the pergola posts will form the pool fence line aswell and then the pool area will go to the fence line. Im also hoping (well trying to convince hubby) to put a shed next to the garage and take it to the fence line and then brick the front so it flows on from the house but he thinks that having 5 parking spaces (2 double and 1 single roller doors) wide is a bit of overkill but it would mean we would be able to get a car in there. We are still trying to work out the back yard as we have a aerobic RI treat septic system which takes up about 12m2 (back corner so its out the way) so we want to fence it off and we have 200m2 of irrigation to sort out. Our 1200m2 block is starting to get very small. Hope your build goes smoothly, all the best Re: Jas build thread (selections and floor plan) Hickinbotha 6Nov 10, 2011 6:55 pm Love the pantry and its position, and the store room, and all the cupboard space in the laundry! Looking forward to seeing this all happen. Variegated Re: Jas build thread (selections and floor plan) Hickinbotha 7Nov 11, 2011 4:19 pm Nice plan Jas Your selections sound great too. Do you have older kids or are you thinking ahead for car parking? Great that you are getting the carpets and air con done with the build - less to do later. https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43937&start=0 Bought a block in Golden Grove - Jan 2011 Finally finished our design, Mar 2012, *yay* Signed with ADH council consent June 12 Re: Jas build thread (selections and floor plan) Hickinbotha 8Nov 11, 2011 9:26 pm Thanks, i am so looking forward to all the cupboard space (esp after being in a rental for a few weeks). We were hoping we could fit the dryer along side the washing machine but it meant that i would have to lose the pull out clothes drawer and broom cupboard so we decided to wall mount the the dryer to get the extra cupboards. Start date is "hopefully in 4 weeks" wont hold my breath though. Nope our girls are 15 months and 5 years. Hubby is always dreaming about a show car and as i come from a "car family" i think its important that he has a car and somewhere to put it (my friends think im nuts) so by extending the garage he cant say he has no where to put the car and it will push him into buying one. So far its working cos he rang me today to say he has seen a VK for sale and needs me to investigate lol. We found it was easier to get the ac through them so not sure how their price compared but for carpets they were probably a bit dearer but the local company as great as they are can be very slow and forgetful and i did not want them to hold up our moving in. The only major thing we need to do after handover is the tiling as the builder wanted $16,500 but doing it after will cost us about $9-11,000. Next week (once he gets home from work) hubby is mowing the block and clearing all the crap left there by next doors builders (we will just poke it in next doors yard until our skip arrives and then chuck it in there) and then i can take some pics Jasmin Hickinbotham Belmont - modified Signed: February 2011 Slab should go down before 2012 My build thread https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=52310&p=799483#p799483 Jas build thread (selections and floor plan) Hickinbotham 9Nov 27, 2011 7:01 pm Well we have a slab !!!!!!!
