Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Cosmopolitan Homes - Liquidator appointed 216Dec 14, 2011 2:46 pm zozo Krushall, you should call SICorp to make sure you were on the list to be contacted by Trend Connections. Being that close to completion in Pemulwuy I would've expected that you be on that list. We were first cab off the rank to get work done by Trend and we are moving in tomorrow. With the rain delays there is still external work to be finished but with SICorp paying for our hotel accommodation I think they were keen to get us in the house. I know that Trend have been trying to use the same tradesmen that were appointed for Cosmo as most have our stuff still in their factories ready for installation. As for the certificates, Trend had to pay to get them again as they either weren't done by Cosmo or Cosmo didn't hand them over. So some of the work couldn't start with new tradies without that certificate being issued. FYI, we were only 4 days from moving in. According to Cosmo at our PCI, all that was required was a bit of touch-up painting and carpentry, installation of appliances and turning on the power/gas. Once Trend got on board, it was found that the electricals weren't ready to go, the connector for the solar panels wasn't installed, there were lots more things to fix/install and Trend found some defects that will have to be repaired down the track - eg we don't have sufficient drainage in the driveway and could have flooding issues. So what seemed like a basic 4 day wait has actually been around 4 weeks work with things still to complete. Hard to know whether Cosmo were trying to cut corners or if the tradies were as they weren't being paid properly - or at all it seems. Hi Zozo We have been in contact with Trend a few times but we keep getting the same response that the quotes will hopefully be done on the weekend. That's been going for about 5 weeks now. I guess in our case as we are on a block of half built houses in a row which have some common grounds etc it makes things a bit trickier when it comes to providing a bulk quote. He has mentioned we will be lucky to get ours houses finished within the 20% margin so that is a little disheartening. It's good to see some houses are being finished off though. Re: Cosmopolitan Homes - Liquidator appointed 217Dec 20, 2011 9:36 am I have submitted to QBE, the quotes from individual cosmo tradespeople to finish the project. It actually was very close to the final payment I was due to make to Cosmo. So what happens in this situation? Is it the case that i have no insurance claim as I havnt really suffered a loss as such. Re: Cosmopolitan Homes - Liquidator appointed 219Dec 20, 2011 8:00 pm If you don't pay the bin people, what will they do? Leave it there! On a more serious note, you do not and should not pay the bin people. Their contract is with someone else. Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 Re: Cosmopolitan Homes - Liquidator appointed 220Dec 21, 2011 10:37 am I wouldn't be paying the bin people Tintin. They are obviously trying to get as much money as possible from anyone who is pushed to pay. This is a fee that the insurer needs to pay. Same goes with getting the certificates. The insurer paid for ours. Speaking to a rep from Trend the other day, they are trying use as many tradesmen used for the original construction as possible. Every single one of those tradesmen has asked Trend for full payment for work to date, even though Trend (via the insurance) is only liable for the works conducted post Cosmo bust. So the tradies will do their best to pull every cent they can. Spoke to an excavator guy who was owed 200K by Cosmo, never to see a cent of it.
