Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Cosmopolitan Homes - Liquidator appointed 68Nov 09, 2011 7:39 pm it seems the builders are reluctant to take on half done houses. being on a subdivision plot for six houses is not helping either commmon fencing, driveway and such. does anyone here has an idea on how much it would cost for 25 sq house @ Internal Wall Linining stage. Or anyone point me to the right builder who would take on such a project. Re: Cosmopolitan Homes - Liquidator appointed 69Nov 09, 2011 8:03 pm tintin I am told that QBE will finalise all projects under its insurance scheme ie. there will be no opportunity for people like me who were so close to get the keys and finish by using builders we find.. Strange. I would have thought that QBE would try to assist in getting people close to completion into their house. Don't QBE need to pay rent and other expenses due to the delay? Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 Re: Cosmopolitan Homes - Liquidator appointed 70Nov 09, 2011 8:14 pm We found out today that the liquidators have nothing to do with our place now as we were so close to completion. Guess this wipes their hands of having to have insurance against our home. Apparently we need to now chase QBE for our certificates and whatever else is sitting in Cosmo's office (assuming that also includes window keys, remotes, instruction manuals etc). I have a feeling we will be waiting a while. Pagalbro, have you considered talking to project management companies? We were at a home show a few months back and you can employ independent project managers to organise trademen. I would expect that those guys would have lots of tradies on their books so would be much easier to find people to finish your job (and only one bill to send to an organisation who can then distribute the funds). I spoke to the estate developers yesterday to ask if they were doing anything to inform the residents of increased theft/keeping watch for tradies on sites and their answer is that they have appointed security guards on the houses they are currently building at the top of our estate (the house and land packages marketed by Delfin) but that's it. A bit disappointing that they can't do a letterbox drop or bulk email out. We've just asked our landlord if we can stay here for a bit longer (were supposed to move out on Saturday) but they have a new tenant moving in 2 weeks. here's hoping we get some progress by then or we may end up staying at the local pub. Or just get the tradesmen to send their bills directly to QBE? Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 Re: Cosmopolitan Homes - Liquidator appointed 72Nov 09, 2011 8:49 pm All we've been told so far is to list everything that still needs to be done, without providing quotes or estimated costs. They haven't confirmed receipt of the claim yet so don't know whether they will ask for quotes or what they need yet. I'm looking at their website and it refers to a customer letter of 7 November (but the link has an error message attached). Huby noticed there are suspicious utes/trucks circuiting our street in the last couple days. This might not even be tradesmen but opportunists Not being part of an estate makes security issue worse. We are going to install a battery-operated alarm, hope it will help. Going insane here, are we in Australia or Libya? My guess it's probably about the creditor meeting next wed as mentioned on fair trading site. Re: Cosmopolitan Homes - Liquidator appointed 76Nov 09, 2011 9:28 pm Pagalbro, we are in the same shoes. We also have already paid stage 4 and we are just waiting for the internal wall, insulation and a bit of the roof. We can't even secure the house as the front door, garage door and our back door is not on yet. We don't know what to do. The website did mention we can get two/three quotes to complete our home, we are not sure where to start. Will any builders want to complete our home? Help!! Re: Cosmopolitan Homes - Liquidator appointed 77Nov 09, 2011 9:31 pm Chaio, I went to Worrell's in person first thing Monday morning. One thing in one of the Worrell's bulletins I'm not a fan of is they are telling the subcontractors not to enter our houses to collect their personal items and/or materials and to contact each owner directly instead. Then it says that a full list of owners and house locations will be provided shortly. Really not comfortable with all the creditors knowing what house is ours. This sounds like open season for me! I understand they have a right to collect their things but giving out full list of owners contact nos and locations without our consent?! Also, how do I know who worked on my house?! Anyone could call and wanting to collect things. Imagine that list got leaked out and passed around. You must be kidding. This has to go thru a middle party that they have to identify themselves and proved they have worked on the site, the middle party call us to check if there are indeed items left on site. This also opens doors for arguments as who owes what. I think we need to call fair-trading to voice our concerns. Now you got me really worried. Since you are not locked up, hopefully there won't be anything of "resale" value in the building worth pinching, like tapware and sink and therefore leave your house alone...
