Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 09, 2008 9:23 pm Hi All,.
I haven't been around for a while as, well, nothing much has been happening on our house so haven't had a lot to report. We are now up to selecting exterior colours and have no idea what we're doing. So I would really love some opinions from you all. Brick - Austral Canterbury Roof - Colorbond Woodland Grey Spouting and downpipes - we had picked Colorbond Wilderness but thinking of changing to Manor Red or ?? - suggestions welcome. Fascia - we had picked Paperbark but also thinking of changing to Classic Cream ?? Any thoughts? Garage door - thinking of the timber look ones in Jarrah. Will this work or should we not introduce a new colour here and stick with whatever fascia colour we go with? Would really welcome your feedback. TIA donuts Re: seeking opinions on exterior colours... 2Feb 11, 2008 8:09 pm Hi donuts,
Sorry.. not an expert with colours. I'm sure Mish will help you out. We used Woodland Grey for the gutters/fascia. We love the colour. For the roofing though, most suggest a lighter colour. The colours would depend on your bricks too. So might as well choose your bricks first so we would know what colours to use for the gutters/fascia, etc. For the garage door, we also chose timber-look Jarrah. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! VJ - I have also heard that most go for lighter colours, but I really love the look of a dark coloured roof next to my bricks. Michelle - Here is a link to our bricks - Melbourne Canterbury. The house in the picture is kind of the look I am after (ours isn't nearly as big as that house though lol). http://www.australbrick.com.au/vic/product.php?ID=262 I am now (today) thinking of these colours instead: Roof - Woodland Grey Gutters/downpipes - Wilderness Fascia - Surfmist Garage - timber look Do these ones sound any better?? Big thank you Re: seeking opinions on exterior colours... 5Feb 12, 2008 8:35 am We have actual samples of all Colorbond colours and I checked out the colours that you listed.
I'm also familiar with the Austral's Melbourne series of bricks because we chose one of them (Hawthorn). If it was my house, I would prefer to use only two colours for the roof, gutters/fascia and downpipes. And with the choice of colours that you listed, I would remove the Wilderness. That's my opinion... now, it's time for the professional's opinion (Mish.. are you there? ) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: seeking opinions on exterior colours... 7Feb 12, 2008 9:18 am Thanks VJ - you might be right about only selecting two colours. This would have been my instinct too but our display home has the Wilderness gutters with Woodland Grey roof, and looks nice, hence why I did too! But maybe I should stick with just two.
So if you were me, would you replace the wilderness gutters/downpipes with Woodland Grey or the light colour (Surf mist)? I think I would lean towards the light colour myself...??? Michelle - Really appreciate you looking at this too! Thanks! donuts Re: seeking opinions on exterior colours... 8Feb 12, 2008 9:35 am Quote: So if you were me, would you replace the wilderness gutters/downpipes with Woodland Grey or the light colour (Surf mist)? I think I would lean towards the light colour myself...??? Oh.. you have to tell us what's going to be the colour of your windows/front door. Am I right MIsh? hehe. If you want some contrast, use a lighter shade (like surfmist) and a darker shade (woodland grey) for the gutters/fascia/downpipes and roof. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Thank you!
This is my list so far: Bricks - Canterbury Roof - Woodland Grey Gutters / Downpipes - Wilderness or Surfmist Fascias - Surfmist Under eaves - will paint to match fascia Windows - off white to match fascia/eaves Garage door - timber look steel (like the one in the link I've attached) front door - black render - off white (there is a little bit of render work in gable above bay window) to match windows/fascia/under eaves Driveways - no idea but happy to look at after to see what will go! there are lots of colours here aren't there? too many? http://www.nationalbuilders.com.au/our- ... .php?id=72 Re: seeking opinions on exterior colours... 14Feb 12, 2008 10:11 am Have a play VJ!!!!!!
I'll look later this afternoon..... The most amount of colours to an exterior to me would be 4 MAX!! Clever placement can give you an all round variation in colour. The last thing you want your house to look like is “Josephs Coat of Many Colours!” Subtle and classy is the way to go. Now off you both go……you have homework now!!!! Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: seeking opinions on exterior colours... 15Feb 12, 2008 10:22 am I checked our sample colours for the windows, the light ones that I've got are:
- white - white birch - primrose - merino There's no same shade as the surfmist If you use white - it's too white.. hehe. If white birch - too creamy I also like surfmist for the fascia and/or gutter. I wonder if it's better to use Woodland Grey for the windows. That's what we're going to use (but for the rear and sides of the house only, as we're using timber windows/door to the front.
