Well, now aircon ducting is being installed in the ceiling space and sparkies have been installing electrical cables. We are actually doing the aircon ourselves, early in contract discussions, the builder was upfront and suggested we organise ourselves, therefore possible to communicate directly with supplier about our requirements and also save on builders markup. I have read on this forum about builders denying 3rd party access to sites for the most trivial of things, but our builder has been fine with aircon supplier having access to do this at this stage, therefore easier and cheaper than doing after house finished. So full marks to our builder (McCracken Country Homes,SA) for open honest communication and user friendly policies!! Aircon supplier said it would probably not be able to heat whole house at once, but where we live it is hot and dry, highly unlikely we would ever want to do this anyway. Cooling is more important for us and he said it could cool the whole house on low temp, say overnight, or 3 - 4 zones during day. TDL, what do you mean, you fell off your chair?? Please explain. Re: first sign of action - photographic frenzy! 74May 16, 2008 5:36 pm interested to see the way the wires for power points are left, was there a bracket been installed at the back?
in our case the electrician have to install a bracket before the gyprock walls are on, and then they dig a square hole around the bracket. Re: first sign of action - photographic frenzy! 75May 17, 2008 12:56 am Ahuang, yes, there are brackets at the back, you can see in the first picture where the gyprock is not yet done around the bay window and the bracket for the roller shutter power switch is on the wall.
DH says there is one like this behind the gyprock for each of the power points. is that what you mean? Re: first sign of action - photographic frenzy! 76May 19, 2008 2:03 pm Yes, that's what I mean and I might have missed that in the photo. May be they just haven't dig the holes yet. No worries! Re: first sign of action - photographic frenzy! 77May 23, 2008 10:26 am This week the waterproofing for the wet areas has been done and drain holes put in floor. Now ready to do the tiling.
Got a call from tile supplier - sorry, some of the tiles (the main bathroom frieze and the front porch tiles) are no longer available, can you drop in within the next week to select something else? Ummm, well, no, its an 8 hour round trip to Adelaide, we both work, sports committments etc ![]() ![]() He offerred to select something for us which would match - ummmm,no, relying on other people's tastes: risky, or to send pictures via email, again risky, cant tell true colour from computer. Anyway while they don't have an outlet here, there is one in Pt Augusta, the large hardware and tile place there does stock many of their tiles. that's a 1.5 hour round trip so guess where we're going on Saturday? For the bathroom he offerred to also change the main wall tiles and/or the floor if we select a frieze that goes with something else better so I hope we can find something suitable. I guess we would be within our rights to ask for the benchtop of the vanity to be changed to match as well, but that would require going back to kitchen supplier - see first comment re 8 hour trip! Luckily its not the kitchen tiles as they really tie in with the benchtop and would be much harder to substitute. Is this sort of problem common? We picked the tiles at selections back in Dec last year. Re: first sign of action - photographic frenzy! 78May 23, 2008 4:41 pm What a pain in the ****. I have heard of this happening. I'm wondering if it would be a possible solution for the tile person to choose some that closely match what you want and then send you samples so you can see what you think?
At the very least, I think someone else should be paying for your fuel for the trip. Received keys to my new home on 16/5/08 ![]() Re: first sign of action - photographic frenzy! 79May 23, 2008 5:00 pm that happened to us as well, the tile you picked ages ago supposed to be put aside as you already paid your deposit. Re: first sign of action - photographic frenzy! 80May 23, 2008 11:59 pm Looks great Helyn ![]() Hope everything goes ok with the tiles....we had the same problem,we,d already made our selection and then the building company changed suppliers so we had to do it all over again...at least it was only a 2 hour round trip for us Good luck Mel ![]() Building on 9 acres Yes, this is a huge thermal bridge which will more or less undermining the insulation already installed in the walls.
