Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 25, 2011 3:25 pm Hi all,
We're currently in the process of finalising our choice of house design to build, and wanted to ask for some help on working out the type of facade we want. Basically, I'm looking for a tool to mock up some facade designs - play around with colours, windows, facade features (eg. brick columns, tiling features, etc), and so on. Does anyone know of anything that will allow me to do this fairly quickly? I've played around with My Virtual Home, which is fantastic for working with floor plans, but not so sure for facade options, as it doesn't seem to have many facade elements to play with (if I've missed something let me know!). Would appreciate any comments... thanks guys. Re: Software tool for facade design? 2Oct 25, 2011 3:30 pm Have you tried Metricon's Studio M - http://www.studiom.com.au/envisage or Colorbond's visualiser - http://colorbond.autech.com.au/onlinevi ... esidential Not sure if this is exactly what you are after but thought it might help! Our building thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=51657 Re: Software tool for facade design? 3Oct 25, 2011 6:52 pm Thanks for the suggestions Eiffel. I've heard of the StudioM online site, been meaning to try it but haven't got to it yet. Haven't heard of the Colorbond one though - will try to check it out tonight too. Just remembered the Google Sketch tool (is that what it's called?)... I wonder whether that might be handy? Re: Software tool for facade design? 4Oct 26, 2011 9:04 am So I gave StudioM and the Colorbond visualiser tool a go - unfortunately they don't let me do what I want. Also had another go at MyVirtualHome last night, but as I had originally thought, it doesn't seem to let me customise the house facade. Google Sketchup might be my next bet... but it's not looking that promising I have to say. All I want to do really, is take an existing facade, and play around with different window types to see if it improves the look for me (eg. change tall and narrow double-hung windows to wide but short awning windows). Surely that's not too hard... The sales consultant we're talking to, has done some very basic changes for us, but only on plan elevation drawings. But without any depth or colour to the drawings, I'm finding it impossible to visualise what the result looks like. Any other suggestions? Surely that's not too hard... DIY facade designing will always be limited due to so many variables. Creating an app that does it all, and simply, is what's hard. And learning tools like Sketchup takes time to master. Just how it is, unfortunately. Re: Software tool for facade design? 7Oct 27, 2011 9:19 am theanonyuser - thanks for linking to that topic, I swear I did a search before creating my thread, but must have somehow missed it. Thanks for your feedback as well d@n. I'm not trying to design a facade from scratch though, nor am I trying to do anything complex. Just want to change the window types on an existing facade, to see how it'll look. To elaborate, we're thinking about going with Masterton's Villina design, with the Metro facade. But I'm considering changing the downstairs window to a 'horizontal feature' style. The sales consultant is discouraging this on the basis it will look 'funny' if it doesn't match the upstairs window - she may well be right, but I just want to be able to see it!
