Would you build with them again?

Hi all. My wife and I are about to build with PD. Having read all your threads and bloggs I'm at bit scared to sign a contract... Have they been that bad or should we look elsewhere? Would you build with them again? Izzy PS: I'll give this blogg stuff a go today, see how I go.

Hi Izzys123,

In my honest opinion we haven't has too many issues. The main one was lack of communication. We haven't started the building process yet.. so we will see what happens in the future, but even after being a little disgruntled as a few issues, all in all I'm quite pleased with the communication that is happening now after some serious butt kicking... haha

We sign our contracts next Tuesday..dun dun dun

What house are you looking at building?

We wouldnt build with PD agian, however many on here that have built with PD would say that they would.

In our opinion our house is nowhere near their "display quality or better" that they promise. We felt much of their work was very sloopy and showed a lack of care from the tradespeople and felt like we were the ones supervising as we seemed to have to pick up on all of the issues ourselves and then struggle to have them acceptably fixed. (carefully worded statement!)

You probably didnt want to hear that......

Thanx for the quick reply. We're building the Heywood 29 - Sorrento. So far the intial contacts with Sales Consultant & Hopetoun have been a little rushed and they are hard to contact and never reply? Anyway, we have a tender appnt next week but it is all still subject to finance through their C Choice finance. Scheduled to build in April 08.[/quote]

From what I've read here and elsewhere, it all comes down to one thing to ensure a good experience and house - communciation. If the builder and owner have good communicaiton channels, everything can be done to each party's satisfaction.

Dont have a blog. We have been in the house since mid november. A few things still waiting to be fixed!!

What are you actually scared of?

Scared of committing a lot of money to a builder who appears, on face value, not to deliver what they promote. If the majority are satisfied with their experience then that's a good thing however if PD are no good then we'll go elsewhere before we commit to contract.

I might have been perceiving all the posts and blogs quite differently from you but from what I gather most people are generally quite happy with PD. Bar certain incidents because nothing in building will go perfectly.

But perhaps you should go to other builders and shop around before you commit to one? That way you can see how different builders do things and see what you're most happy with.

We would build with them again !

We had a couple of issues, one being the number of supers we went through :shock:

All in all though we are really pleased with our house. We just had our 3 month maintenance done and were really pleased with that as well.

Hi Izzy we are building the Heywood28 and so far no real problems .

We are in lockup stage and started building Nov 20th its been very quick, i would proberly build with PD again.... we are around 2months to finish .We have and have gotton a independent building inspector to check Pre plaster and Prehandover.. and would highly recommend doing that. i guess what i havent been happy with is the plastering. . With any builder you go with Some peoples buidling experiences are good and others have a bad time.. guess its potluck :wink:

Thanks Clath...this is a good forum. I am getting more 'pros than cons' comments. I must have misinterpretted some blogs. I will get Kevin to do the inspections as well. How is Kevin received by the Porter Davis site managers?

We decided to NOT go with PD due to an overall "like it or lump it" and "well, if you don't wanna go with us, plenty of people still will" attitudes we felt was abound with most PD salespeople.

Did you come across the sales guy at "The Rise' Tarneit ? What a shocker, straight from the used car sales yard :roll:

We dealt with Kane Kelly at Point Cook, I don;t think we have ever recieved better service from anyone ever !

i got told off by my site super(he didnt yell at me lol) for a few things i wont mention on here but he wasnt happy i got a independ through the house, tuff its my money im paying for it.. told him i will bring him through prehanderover too. :wink:

Anyway they got the report and those issues i hope will be fixed as im meeting with the site super next monday.. guess he knows that he has to be on the ball from now on :wink:

Hey guys, we have a 621sqm block, approx 0.8 m fall. Building Heywood 29, 29 sqs single story house. Quoted $13000 site costs with PD. Does this sound right? Original quote was $8000.....
