Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 22, 2011 8:59 pm Hi all, my land is located in kingwell neighbourhood stage 1 (williams landing estate) title this feb 2012 and currently try to find a builder. for estate requirement Porter davis quote me for fiber optic trench for $465 Urbanedge quote me for fiber opti, NBN co package for $654 but burbank quote me for telstra velocity package for $ 2350 it is way to expensive to other builder and it seems that the cheapest option for burbank to implement finer optic anyone knows what the requirement to build house for fiber optic. what is the different testra velocity and NBn co? i don't want to be lock withtelstra because they usually price more expensive than others like TPG, etc what is the cheapest option to implement fiber optic in this estate? is NBN co enough? thanks Re: fiber optic quote for williams landing estate 2Oct 23, 2011 11:06 am I think you'll find the first two quotes might be for your trenching (and possibly terminating point in the house for the second quote?), whereas the velocity package is everything - trenching, terminating point, home network hub, home network cabling (and there is a lot of it), connection fees(?), etc. Bear in mind with the velocity package you'll be locked in with telstra, but then again depending on your estate if it is a nominated telstra smart community then you might not have a choice(?). Some people apparently have nothing better to do than comment on other people's sigs. Re: fiber optic quote for williams landing estate 3Oct 23, 2011 12:12 pm Williams Landing is NOT a Telstra Velocity estate. A balanced diet is chocolate in both hands. If the newer stages have optical fiber to the house, then the Telstra Velocity package will be available. We are in an earlier stage. We have optical fiber running to withing 100mtrs of our house, then it is copper. I wounder if you could organise for optical fibre to be run down your street and how much it would cost. Get all neighbours interested to chip in. Re: fiber optic quote for williams landing estate 5Oct 23, 2011 2:45 pm so anyone know what is the requirement for williams landing estate or whos i should speak to? i try to speak with the estate manager but always bounce me back to the builder. but if i ask the builder, i think builder has their own preference and trick to trap the buyer. any suggestion ? so without telstra velocity, will i able to use reasonable internet speed? i don't want to locked by telstra. thanks for you info Re: fiber optic quote for williams landing estate 6Oct 23, 2011 6:51 pm kkurni so anyone know what is the requirement for williams landing estate or whos i should speak to? i try to speak with the estate manager but always bounce me back to the builder. but if i ask the builder, i think builder has their own preference and trick to trap the buyer. any suggestion ? so without telstra velocity, will i able to use reasonable internet speed? i don't want to locked by telstra. thanks for you info Here is my 2 cents. Most likely you won't be getting any Fibre Optic connection to your home, ADSL/ADSL2 (if available) is the only real broadband Internet you're going to get until NBN reaches your area. Companies who used to roll out Fibre Optic in green field developments such as Opticomm or OpenNetwork aren't likely to roll out Fibre Optic in WL now because of NBN. As for Telstra's Velocity Fibre, not totally impossible given there is Fibre running to the streets already, quite possibly owned by Telstra too all they need to do is run it to your home, but unless Cedarwoods make a deal with them, can't see it happening. As for the quotes, PD and UrbanEdge sound like they know what they're talking about, as cmhamilton said, they simply quoted you for the Lead-in (trench/conduit/drawstring) to your house for future connection. whereas Burbank was a bit funny, they should have known WL is not a Telstra Velocity Estate, whoever gave you the quote was simply ticked one of the the (Opticomm Pack, OpenNetwork Pack and Telstra Velocity Pack from the computer) and didn't realise WL has no Fibre to the home. If I were you I'll get the builder to quote for the lead-in for future NBN and a separate quote for home network, so that you still able to use your home network regardless what kind of Internet connection to your property. You can always ring Cedarwoods, (not the estate sales person) they're the only one knows what is going to happen.
