Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 21, 2011 5:04 pm Hey all Just visited the site and saw two things that I have a question for. 1. Is the obvious nailing acceptable so the timber is supposed to be flush? 2. Is the horizontal timber supposed to be the same as the vertical frame timber? .... which I saw on the vertical frame that it is MGP10 and smooth and the horizontal just looks like ordinary ruff as bits of what ever 3. Im not supposed to be on site at all due to contract but ofcourse I do visit the site undectected ,If these are faults, am I able to bring these up with the builder or do I wait for my independent building inspector to raise the issue? The only issue is perhaps the "play' between the noggins and the stud. You are at least very lucky your builder is using MGP10 for the studs. Many use F5. Re: FRAME: Is this accetable? 3Oct 21, 2011 11:19 pm You can always ask to go and look with the site supervisor and you can have your questions answered on the spot. If you are uncomfortable with what you are bring told you can always get an independent inspector in. Note that the builder will then try to extend the contract date due to delays waiting for the inspectors report. My independent inspector indicated on the report that 8 noggins were not tightly fitted between the studs. He didn't mention any violations of the BCA or Australian Standards, but my site supervisor promised to fix them. Here's an example of the gap in noggins. Gap is half the size of a 5 cent coin (I have 8 of these). This is 100% true. You can not hang anything on steel frames. very frustrating 8 5353 This certainly doesn't look good. I would be engaging with an independent inspector to have a look at this.
