Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 11, 2014 6:59 pm Hi All, First time on this site and thought someone might be able to help me... We are building in Bunbury WA and have just got pricing back for upgrading our tiles to the next size up- builder has come back at over $50m2! For labour only- the tiles themselves are the same retail price!! Anyone else having this problem? Should I tell them to shove it or are all the builders charging the same? Thanks Re: Building in Bunbury WA- upgrade prices 2Apr 11, 2014 7:31 pm I would d it after handover , most of the time you can ask the tiler who is doing your bathroom tiles to lay your living area . I was quoted $40,000 to do mine we we are paying just over half of that . Ask at the tile shop if they have anybody you could use Re: Building in Bunbury WA- upgrade prices 3Apr 11, 2014 7:40 pm Is this for your wet areas to go to 300 x 300mm in lieu of standard 200 x 200mm? Or is this to upgrade a living area floor package? Re: Building in Bunbury WA- upgrade prices 4Apr 11, 2014 7:50 pm Its for the wall tiles only (wet areas and kitchen splashback). Floor tiles were the right size. All standard height etc. I dont think I can take wet areas out, I think that is a legal requirement that the builders do before handover... if anyone knows different, please let me know. Re: Building in Bunbury WA- upgrade prices 5Apr 11, 2014 7:58 pm If they are rectified porcelain then $50m2 is actually not too bad through the builder. I was charged $600 (for the whole bathroom not per m2) for 300 x 600 wall tiles to main bathroom although the tile itself was $5m2 over budget.
hope this helps Re: Building in Bunbury WA- upgrade prices 6Apr 11, 2014 8:03 pm Sorry I should have clarified- not rectified or porcelain! Just a ceramic 300 x 600. That's why I was so taken aback by the price. Re: Building in Bunbury WA- upgrade prices 7Apr 11, 2014 8:46 pm That does sound a bit high then SunnyBunny Re: Building in Bunbury WA- upgrade prices 8Apr 11, 2014 9:34 pm to do my ens in rectified tiles, as a upgrade of $2,500 to upgrade in the bathroom to a floor tile of 30x30cm was about $70 for the whole bathroom floor Re: Building in Bunbury WA- upgrade prices 9Apr 12, 2014 12:20 am Thank you for your help- just wanted to make sure I'm not the only one that thinks that is excessive :/ Tradie may sit at home but will need to get house plastered as well or will you sit it out? 6 10579 Hey guys building a new place through a volume builder and just wondering if i should complain to the site supervisor as we just had plasterboard installed.
