Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building on acreage 21Feb 11, 2008 3:08 pm That's awesome. We bought our block because of the views of the mountains, it is a little harder to build on but you can't beat a great view. Re: Building on acreage 22Feb 11, 2008 3:37 pm TDD!!!
Thats awesome... How's the roof of your car now? May I ask the suburb/general area of your block? Re: Building on acreage 23Feb 11, 2008 7:35 pm ![]() TDD!!! Thats awesome... How's the roof of your car now? May I ask the suburb/general area of your block? Matt, it's in Langwarrin, Mornington Peninsula borders. I won't post the specific estate as I have included photos of the neighbouring properties elsewhere. The car's fine, it's a big 4x4 so I reckoned it would cope! We get the 1st sketch designs from the architect on Wednesday! ![]() ![]() Simon Building an architect designed home out of Insulated Concrete Forms on acreage in semi-rural SE Melbourne. I'm jealous too ![]() After 2 false starts, a year living overseas, two more world trips and 3 years of uncertainty we are now starting the build process again - hopefully for real this time! Re: Building on acreage 25Feb 12, 2008 6:06 pm Simon,
We built on half an acre back in Brisbane, a lovely almost perfect rectangle in a group of six homes in SEQ, about 25 minutes' drive south of Brisbane CBD. A reserve across the road, wallabies, possums and koalas in your front and back yard, not chance of being built out, bike paths everywhere....very idyllic. However, we were given a 500 sqm building envelope, told we weren't allowed to plant anything but particular trees on a provided list, informed we were not to build any front or boundary fences (there were already back fences from the houses in the street behind, at least!). What is more, no cats at all, no dogs outside the building envelope, no trees larger than 300mm in diameter to be taken down - no matter where they were, no carports - only garages.... There were a lot more covenants, but I can't think of them right now. It was lovely living where we were living where we were, but the restrictions made it harder than it would have otherwise been to sell our place. In the end, however, the buyers ended up going against many of the convenants. Dunno if the council got to hear of it! Fiona I think TDD will also be susceptible to some if not all of these covenants. Once Certificate of Occupancy has been given; I’ve also witnessed many changes done by home owners in direct contradiction of the covenants. We have a 1/2 acre building envelope, we have 3 trees that must be kept, which we wouldn't dream of removing anyway, no cats which is a good thing, no restrictions on other animals or plants. We're very happy with the list of covenants, they don't cause us any issues. Simon Building an architect designed home out of Insulated Concrete Forms on acreage in semi-rural SE Melbourne.
