Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 11, 2011 8:45 pm Hi all, My hubby and I have almost finished a new GJ Gardner home and I'm afraid I'm not very happy with the exterior colours. We have used C/bond Deep Ocean for the roof, gutters and fascias, C/bond Dune for most of the render except for the 2 panels either side of the front door which is a Wattyl colour called Chino (3/4 strength). Because the windows and frames are both dark I don't think there's enough variety of colour, and it looks very plain and boring. We were going to use Deep Ocean on those 2 panels but then thought it might be "too blue", so decided on the chino instead. Maybe we should have stuck with the Deep Ocean. What do you think? I know that paths and gardens and some nice big pot plants will make a difference, but I'm still a bit disappointed. Has anyone got any ideas of how we could "jazz" it up a bit......just something simple as a feature? Maybe some stackstone somewhere? I've got no idea and I feel like my head will explode if I think about this any longer! http://s1105.photobucket.com/albums/h351/AllyAb/ Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!! Re: Not 100% happy with exterior of house 2Oct 11, 2011 8:51 pm Honestly, I think it looks fine! You're right, the landscaping will help to add a bit of life and colour. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I love how you have had your front doors installed. I have only ever seen them with the curved glass facing in, but yours facing out like that is really unique. Maybe just live with it until you get your landscaping done, then if you still don't love it, you will have a pretty good idea of what colour you might like. The beauty of render, you can easily change the whole look of your facade! Good luck, Jess Re: Not 100% happy with exterior of house 4Oct 11, 2011 9:52 pm You just need a garden, some lovely trees, paving, it will look great! hubby, kids and me all waiting for the Amberlea Site Cut 27 September 2011 https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=46637 http://www.dscml.com/ Re: Not 100% happy with exterior of house 5Oct 11, 2011 11:10 pm It looks lovely, I would finish it off with a timber deck for the porch and if you are after colour put 2 nice big feature pots at the front in a feature colour maybe a red, and as mentioned before once the garden goes in it will look different again. Cheers Lou http://take2-customdesigndownslope.blogspot.com 07-10-09 omg they have cut the block 14-05-10 we finally have the keys Re: Not 100% happy with exterior of house 6Oct 11, 2011 11:20 pm I agree with everyone else, it looks lovely and when you add a couple of feature pots and the landscaping, it will really set off the beautiful soft neutral colours of your home. I hope our build turns out as nice! Well done! Re: Not 100% happy with exterior of house 7Oct 11, 2011 11:25 pm Hey there, just thought i'd put my two cents worth in and say that I love the windows that you have installed, the doors are beautiful and you have a gorgeous house! I'm actually quite excited for you as you can do alot with your garden! It really is a canvas that you will (i'm sure) do something wonderful in it. I agree with everyone here! Certainly get creative, pavements, deckings, outdoor furniture (garden bench, front porch swings) potted plants, outdoor garden lights, water features/ponds whatever your fancy!:) Wish I had enough garden on my block of land.. i'd probably plant a lemon tree.. have a little vegie patch and an area just to sit and relax:) The sky is the limit and your house is going to be enhanced by whatever you plan to do with it:P It's just the matter of when, the time, the planning and once you get started you'll see a difference that it'll make to your house:) I cannot wait to move into my new home.. they say that Patience is a Virtue! http://heartmyhome.blogspot.com Re: Not 100% happy with exterior of house 8Oct 12, 2011 8:29 am Thanks to everyone for your kind words and helpful advice....I'm really inspired to do something amazing with the landscaping now! If only we had the skills...oh well, we'll manage. We've got just under 18 acres so the sky's the limit!! Re: Not 100% happy with exterior of house 9Oct 12, 2011 11:45 am Think about what you are going to do for window coverings too. At the moment the windows look like big black holes but a lighter window covering would provide some contrast. Re: Not 100% happy with exterior of house 11Oct 12, 2011 12:45 pm I agree with what everyone else has said, we don't have a lot of colour at the front of our house but you should see the difference the paving has made and now a lawn and garden have been put in so the house is no longer the focal point. There are some colourful facades on here but your house looks great the way it is. Don't waste sleep over it - if you still hate it in six months then paint it!! Re: Not 100% happy with exterior of house 12Oct 12, 2011 1:18 pm AllyA Yeah, windows won't really change because they are tinted dark for energy efficiency. Ah, that explains why the windows look so dark. Then the garden will do the trick. Re: Not 100% happy with exterior of house 13Oct 12, 2011 9:57 pm I love your house!! It is really a blank canvas that you can do anything with. Anything will go with it. I think it would look amazing with palms and tropical plants. Unfortunately I don't think palms and tropical plants will do very well in our cold climate (we live near Stanthorpe,Qld), but I appreciate the ideas and the kind words. Re: Not 100% happy with exterior of house 15Oct 13, 2011 4:41 pm Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for your help and ideas, and that I've uploaded a few more photos to P/bucket if anyone wants to have a little looky-loo. http://s1105.photobucket.com/albums/h351/AllyAb/ That sucks! Hope it all works out. Good to move away from steel anyway for all your reasons, but it's also thermally poor. 16 17895 As is per usual for many of the past failed RWH regulations, it is probably traceable to a bureaucrat who's ego overrode the need to seek the appropriate expert… 1 1032 |
