Our thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=67954 Re: Anyone building with MainVue Homes 307Jun 14, 2013 8:30 am clubbi4 grunter072 Hi all, We have been living in our Mainvue built Amalfi 3 months today, just starting to notice our square set is looking really bad, we have a hole in the bottom of our kitchen island bench which shouldn't be there, but what I'm most upset about is the fact it's taken over 4 months for now for the renderer to come back and finish his half a*rsed job, guy just rendered around our down pipe and electrical junction boxes, we can't install our outside lights until the tender is done. Every time we've called our SS to organize for the renderer to come around, he's like, "yer he'll be out next week", next week comes around and no renderer, as usual! For those of you who are building or thinking of building with Mainvue, l truly wish you the best and l hope you have a lot of patience, you'll be needing it! It's amazing the things you see after being in for a few weeks or so. Plaster is crap, tiles are crap, painting is crap....Never ever again HY or MV Interesting you say that we are happy with pretty much everything in our house... That's why we have these forums, so we can share all our experiences, good or bad. I can only comment on what I see. It's like buying a new car, one person may have a trouble free experience and the other have everything go wrong even though they are made by the same people. I'm sure if I came for a wonder through your place, I would see things that are not right as well. Everyone has there own interpretation of what is good and what is not. I will try and go through some things with you. First of all, the brickies used bricks that should have been tossed out cause the shape was all over the place. Now I know why there were 2 pallets (or what ever they are called) of bricks left over which all got tossed into the bin. The plasterers did a rush job. You can see all the plaster joins and quite a lot of screw patches. Plaster screws are starting to protrude. Most corners have come apart a mm or 2 but I guess that just movement in the frame. The painters also did a very rough job. Very thin paint job. Can see all the nail spots on the windows, skirtings and door frames. The carpet layers scratched all the skirtings. You can see marks all along them. When I asked the supervisor if this was normal, he said yeah that's how it is. I can tell you it wasn't like that in my previous house. The tilers, well.....Apart from having fire in their pants to finish the job, they were constantly smoking in my house and putting the buts out on the slab. I informed the supervisor and he assured me they were not allowed to smoke in the house and that he would have a word to them. Oh yeah, that would have scared them ...NOT!!! Nothing changed, They were grinding tiles in the bedrooms so I had dust all over my walls and woodwork and the painters were just painting over it. Then I pointed it out to them and they respond by saying, if we had to wipe down walls in every house we did, it would take us a week longer to complete the job. So that's why the paint is rough in some rooms but once I was aware of this, I wiped the walls down myself and the paint job is a bit better in those rooms. The tiles are pretty wonky in some areas. By wonky I mean not even and flat and in some places and the edge doesn't line up cause they were to lazy to use crosses to keep them aligned. They used a grinder to cut straight lines in some of the tiles and it really looks crap. Amateurs by far. They were even stepping on tiles that were laid ten minutes earlier. They tippy toe cause that makes a huge difference to how much they weigh . Spend 10k for porcelain tiles only to have them laid by people who can't lay tiles. The cabinets are very rough. The wall oven tower wasn't square so my ovens don't sit perfectly straight. Really bugs me!! The pot drawers have a gap of about 5mm on the sides but the panels on the sides are white so you can see white lines next to all the pot drawers. Looks hideous. They tried to fix one which was really wide and it looks even worse. They glued some laminate over the white laminate. What butchers. They made the range hood cupboard the wrong size for the range hood we chose. That was back in November and we are still waiting for that to be rectified. First time they came around to check it out, they cut the cupboard just so the range hood would fit so I would have a range hood while they made another cupboard. It got to February and still hadn't heard from anyone about it. I call the company and the rude disgraceful lady who answered the phone had no record of this being done and told me they are flat out and can't help me and I was then hung up on. I was fuming like you wouldn't believe. How can anyone speak to a customer like that and then hang up on them cause they are flat out I ring HY and they also had no record of this being done. You can imagine how happy I was. So I ring the original guy from HY that I told about the cupboard to from the onset and he arranged them to come back out and re measure the cupboard AGAIN! Then 4 weeks later they come around to reinstall this cupboard. But wait, it was still all wrong. OMG...ARE YOU SERIOUS!!! I said mate, the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing over there. The guy that worked there agreed with me. So he goes ahead and takes a heap of photos to show them how it should be. So, this was back in march. About April I call up again and the absolutely rudest woman I have ever heard answers again. I seriously don't know how she still has a job. Apparently the cabinet makers are waiting on HY to get the ok for me to have an open range hood cupboard. Ahh we don't want an open range hood cupboard. Anyway, after I explained how the cupboard should be he arranged it for me. When they came to install it again, there were scratches all over the doors. So now the doors had to be remade. They came back last week with the new doors and guess what, the colour is not the same. Now I gave them 1 of the original doors and 1 of the new doors he gave me so they can match the colour again. Well, we are still waiting for the doors to come back. Who knows when this will be all done and finished. All I can say is that at the end of the day, these MASS PRODUCTION builders go for the cheapest quote. In my experience in trades, the cheapest quotes are given by those who don't have much work on and need the job. Because the profit isn't as high as what it should be, they have to rush it to move on to the next job just so they can make a living. Anyway, I'm sure I am 1 in 100 and most of you guys are happy with how your build has come out but I can tell you that I will not be going down the production building path again. As soon as the value gets to where we can get our money back, we'll be selling up and building another house Thanks for reading.. Re: Anyone building with MainVue Homes 310Jun 18, 2013 4:19 pm Clubbi, thanks for the feedback. On the back of your concerns we are looking to get an independent building inspector to inspect, consult and provide written reports for each stage of the construction. I reckon having a independent professional to advise us of the faults/potential issues which might not be obvious to us, would help in negotiating with MV to remedy the faults. Re: Anyone building with MainVue Homes 311Jun 18, 2013 7:28 pm MrsT12 I think most people just leave it at "For those of you who are building or thinking of building... l truly wish you the best and l hope you have a lot of patience, you'll be needing it!" lol. Whats wrong with the square set? And what is the hole in the island from? This is the second we have built with square set, our first house had perfect square set, Mainvue's square set on the other hand is crap! Shadow lines everywhere. As someone has said, the paint job is pathetic, my 5 year old niece could do a better job, the paint is so thin, doubt very much they "sprayed" two coats! We have holes in our grout, everywhere, our internal doors were stained chocolate, you can see brush marks everywhere, brush marks where they cut in the walls. The hole at the bottom of the kitchen bench is where they forgot to place a kicker panel. Rant over, sorry but I've had enough, I've spent a lot of money with Mainvue I deserve to be treated a lot better Re: Anyone building with MainVue Homes 312Jun 18, 2013 7:34 pm clubbi4 grunter072 Hi all, We have been living in our Mainvue built Amalfi 3 months today, just starting to notice our square set is looking really bad, we have a hole in the bottom of our kitchen island bench which shouldn't be there, but what I'm most upset about is the fact it's taken over 4 months for now for the renderer to come back and finish his half a*rsed job, guy just rendered around our down pipe and electrical junction boxes, we can't install our outside lights until the tender is done. Re: Anyone building with MainVue Homes 313Jun 19, 2013 4:54 pm Excuse my ignorance, but by "square set", is this just in reference to a wall/ceiling join with no cornice? If so, is there any practical or cost reason to select a square set finish, or is it just a matter of aesthetics? Re: Anyone building with MainVue Homes 314Jun 21, 2013 11:12 am comfortablywacky Clubbi, thanks for the feedback. I reckon having a independent professional to advise us of the faults/potential issues which might not be obvious to us, would help in negotiating with MV to remedy the faults. Good idea. The main thing with any builder is to not agree to do handover until you are happy. Its always much harder to get them to fix things once you no longer owe them money Re: Anyone building with MainVue Homes 315Jun 21, 2013 11:13 am Doc Freeman Excuse my ignorance, but by "square set", is this just in reference to a wall/ceiling join with no cornice? Primarily aesthetics, but it costs more because the plasterers need to finish the edges where the wall meets the ceiling perfectly, whereas with the cornice, the edges are simply 'covered up' with curved cornice. Re: Anyone building with MainVue Homes 317Jun 26, 2013 7:05 pm I'm a little bit worried now to hear not so great feedbacks from people who have lived in their Mainvue houses on and off the forum. Square set corners are common issues. Mainvue agreed to fix all Windows and timber post between two sliding doors to be same as displayed. This is purely due to the fact that i have these clarified in email during contract stage. Lucky me! However, the quality of job done is definitely not same as displayed, especially the stain job. Mainvue hasn't given me much confidence in their work so far. Highly recommend independent building inspection. Re: Anyone building with MainVue Homes 318Jun 30, 2013 6:31 pm Zerosignal As far as MainVue go we are very happy with them the quality and speed of the work has been good, any of the minor issues we have had to date have been quickly rectified as well. Hi Zerosignal, Do you have a blog/thread/photos of your house build by chance? Re: Anyone building with MainVue Homes 319Jul 03, 2013 4:08 pm Hi Everyone, Well it's been a very long wait but we are finally back on track...shed slab has just been finished today and we have a site start with Mainvue next week....yippee! The last 7 months since demolition have been incredibly upsetting and depressing at times but we have finally managed to get the project back on track. Mainvue have been great and very eager to get started...lots of patience with us and our lovely people at the water board who decided to make 5 months of our lives quite miserable. I'm just waiting on hubby to get home from the block and will then upload our latest page on the blog, hopefully up by tonight for those that are interested in our progress. So good to see something happening again. from a very excited future owner Re: Anyone building with MainVue Homes 320Jul 05, 2013 12:58 pm I might add in my comments so far too (just signed contracts) The designs are great as are the styles in the display homes. Our site costs were ridiculously high, they didnt tell us when our first contracts administrator resigned (she estimated site costs to be $25k but they ended up about double) and they tried to charge us additional $$ for double glazing after claiming that our home was 5.3 stars (no energy report provided). otherwise I think that their customer services has been great, very quick turnaround on replies and quite professional. I also read some comments about the Epping display centre, I found that their build quality was very very below par at the Epping/Eucalpt estate, but salt water coast and point cook have been finished to a much higher level of quality Wish you all the best. Once you signed the contract, they will find millions excuses to charge you. And have seen their sites unfinished for a long time. 4 24828 I haven’t. But have a Lowe Design home. Not only did I find Matt Lowe patronising and a bully, but the home is NOT TO CODE. I have water coming through the bricks… 1 14381 Hi we are looking to talk to people who have built with them recently. We have signed mid range built contract but identified that a lot of things are not included.… 0 724 |
