Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 07, 2011 10:40 pm Ok, so I meant to start this thread a little while ago after getting some help on here with our plans, but lots of things have got in the way ...... so anyway here goes: A quick timeline: 25/03/11 - found the block 02/05/11 - first 'official' meeting with the builders 06/05/11 - contracts signed on the block 24/06/11 - settlement on the block June/July -> lots of meetings/emails with the builders 12/8/11 - signed building contracts! 27/8/11 - Colour selections 14/9/11 - Move out of our rental and in with my parents so we are closer to the build 22/9/11 - Received building permit in the post AND site works begin 26/9/11 - Retaining Wall construction begins 28/9/11 - Piers drilled and filled 3/10/11 - Retaining walls completed, water and electricity pipes laid, plumbing preparations 6/10/11 - Slab poured! 12/10/11 - Frame begins 24/10/11 - Roof begins 25/10/11 - Bricking begins, water and gas pipes in 26/10/11 - House is wrapped, hot water pipes in ?? need to fill in a few gaps here 28/01/12 - Floor tiles 31/01/12 - Cornices 8/2/12 - Painting begins 17/2/12 - Kitchen and bathroom cabinetry installed 20/2/12 - garage door installed, final fix of electrics begins 23/2/12 - Landscaping done 24/2/12 - stone benches installed, final fix of plumbing begins ?? missed a few important landmarks this week.... 3 or 4/3/12 - vinyl planks laid, roof insulation installed 5/3/12 - wardrobe fitout, driveway done 6/3/12 - carpet installed 9/3/12-Handover Our custom plans: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The block: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The slab: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We are building in regional victoria on a battleaxe block of 1001m2, thus the odd shape and interesting number of neighbours! We are using a local builder who we are good friends with so hoping there won't be too many hiccups along the way! Ok, so I think that brings everything up to speed! We have been up to the block this afternoon and have set foot on our slab It's great to be able to see the size and layout and really get a feel of things - I swap between thinking that it looks huge to thinking that it's not as big as I thought it would be! We also found that our frame has been delivered so this time next week we could be visiting the block to walk through the rooms!
