Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 04, 2011 6:14 pm Hi all, I've been visiting these forums for a loooonnng time, but just starting get serious about building our own home, so thought I'd start posting! We've looked at countless floor plans (seriously, I dream about them), and visited countless displays, but can't seem to find the perfect house and land package within our budget (first home buyers, ideally want a mortgage under $380k). We're now looking at buying land separately (we've found our block at Grandvue in Officer) and then building. We've found the most perfect floorplan, and they have told us they can build wherever, etc etc etc, but the house will be $200k. Land is $175k, so it's not too bad, but this company (MegaHomes) do not include much for that base price. I'm wondering if it would be cheaper / easier to build our home ourselves, but then have no idea how to go about doing this in terms of when the mortgage would be released if not in instalments like with a regular builder? All that said - my father is the world's best bricklayer (not biased at all), my uncle a carpenter and my cousin a plumber. All are brilliant and willing, but I am yet to talk to them seriously about them building the house. Does anyone know of basic prices to build a 21sq home yourself? Including plans being drawn up, house lots of quality electric goods (kitchen / laundry / theatre, etc.)? Thanks in Advance!
