Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 04, 2011 5:01 pm Hi all, I hoping someone can give me some guidance. I shall be demolishing my existing house and building a new one. At the moment the power comes overhead from the stobie pole into my house. The stobie pole is out the front of my house on the same side of the road about 8 or 9 metres from the power box. My builder has quoted me $1500 to connect power. Could someone please explain what is required and if I should go through my builder to get this done or a third party. Re: Power Connection 2Oct 04, 2011 5:18 pm Hi Jackster, The quote includes sinking the power lines and putting up a new power dome for your home. I am building in Perth and I applied for it myself in the council, it cost me close to 1500$ as well. You can do this yourself by contacting you local council or go to their website, that should help you OR save yourself the headache by going through the builder . -Amri Re: Power Connection 3Oct 04, 2011 5:31 pm Guess it may also depend what state your in ! I'm in NSW and have just had the power disconnected from the house we are demolishing (direct connection from street pole). The electric company directed us to their authorised electrician who disconnected the power, erected an aluminium looking pole in the corner of our block, reconnected the wiring from the street pole (other side of street) to our new pole with meter box attached. Cost $1562.00 incl. gst. Re: Power Connection 6Oct 10, 2011 6:50 pm rjg, are you talking about the trench etc connecting from the new pole to the new house (fuse box relocation etc.) down the time track a bit ? I guessed the costs haven't stopped yet !! I know nothing of power except I switch it on , what is this 3 phase business, will I get it ?,will I need it ? I want solar as well ? Suppose this will all cost as much as the house !! Suppose this will all cost as much as the house !! So I paid for the power pole - I think this was one of the first things done. This was around $1600 for me. You'll probably notice that the power is yet to be connected to the pole - Mine has a bunch of cables hanging from it. I think what they do is generate power for us on site currently. At a point in time, they will get some independent to quote to you. I have the quote infront of me - it says Road Crossing, Establishment Fee, Metering, Three Phase Overhead = $966. I guess this connects the pole to the power line + adds a meter box + meter inside the box? Re: Power Connection 8Oct 12, 2011 9:11 pm Solar is pretty expensive - I think I got a quote and the thing that irks me is that the power can't be stored. I thought thjis was what it did naturally! Obviously not. You need to have some other device store the energy or send it back to the grid (which is where you get the credits). I think you'd need to stay in the house you build for at least 5-10 years to re-coup the original outlay. Not worth it for me as we're only doing this as a stepping stone.. Re: Power Connection 9Oct 14, 2011 10:42 am Cheers rjg, my price was to supply&install point of attach. pole, with temporary meter position&safety switch to allow for construction, including disconnect(from house)&reconnect(to pole) aerial service wires. We can unlock the box and plug in the kettle for a cuppa... The electrician said when we build will have to run a trench from the pole to the house carrying appropriate wiring, which will be $ (maybe the eventual builder will factor into the price ?) Agree your comments re solar but as we are looking at long term will probably warrant the cost 3 48410 Hi all I'm currently building a duplex in Sydney and we need to do a new water connection to the second unit. The water main is on the other side of the road so we need… 0 4277 Would also like an opinion from anyone that has used xcem over hebel for floors. Thanks 1 14249 |
