Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 29, 2011 9:27 pm we're about to build outdoor decking areas, one at front of house, and then a larger entertaining area.My husband suggested since we are doing a reasonable amount of decking to use the pine [for cost]as we also have carport, back pergola to buy and erect also..I was not so keen on the pine, and looked at other woods. We live in a smaller area and the nearest hardware stores only have permapine or kapur.I thought the kapur would look better, a bit nicer than the pine, and its not much more expensive, but the sales guy form our hardware store seemed to really push the permapine, reckons its good quality and will wear better whereas the hardwood will require more maintenance etc..has anyone else weighed up the pros and cons of either wood for decking? Re: kapur or permapine decking? 2Sep 30, 2011 8:05 am I have never really thought about pine, but Kapur is decking I have used regularly and it looks great. Maintenance is either one of 2 ways. 1. Leave it and let it age naturally where it will eventually turn a lighter shade of redish tones. 2. Treat it with decking oil and maintain a good waterproof finish and look that same dark redish colour from new. Problem is if it gets a lot of traffic this step will have to be repeated every 12 - 18 months. Hi, as per the subject. Does anyone have any recommendations for the best value decking oil (Bunning is close to where I live) for a treated pine deck? Thanks 0 10976 Use a product like Equisol's Vitalise to clean the deck then coat with a penetrating timber oil. It will look 10 years younger and add value to your home.
