Time has flown by and it’s still our favourite place. The more we do to it, the better it looks and the happier we are. It’s a beautiful house and no plans to leave just yet! ___________ We’ve ticked off quite a few jobs recently, thanks to Dave doing overtime in Derby and excellent tax refunds… Namely, our WIR has been fitted out, we built a fence/gate along the edge of our alfresco, we extended the patio paving to the fence, and we had a massive mirror installed in our gym so it looks amazing! To start with, the gym mirror. It is 2m long x 1.84m high and it (obviously) makes the room look HUGE. I love our gym. I have gone to a lot of trouble to fit it out with all of the things necessary to do my workouts at home. I am in love with it, and the massive mirror makes it way better! Next, the alfresco. We continued the paving from the edge to the fence, so now it makes the alfresco seem much bigger – plus we plan on extending a patio roof out to the edge as well and eventually build our BBQ under it. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b102/paprika_rulz/photo7-1.jpg Then we built a fence with a gate. This was for no other reason other than the fact that WA/Perth/SOR has had a lot of dog poisonings lately, and frankly it stresses me out to think of what my girls might eat when I’m not home. So we put up the fence and gate so that during the day when we’re not home, they stay close to the house and don’t go into the main part of the yard. They are allowed inside during the day and frankly I don’t think they move off the couch, but it still makes me feel better. And when we get home, I check the yard before letting them out to run and play. They still have a 1m x 4m strip of grass to use for toilet trips down the kitchen side of the house, so they aren’t without grass, but the yard is large and beautiful in the sun so they look forward to being out when we get home. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b102/paprika_rulz/photo6-2.jpg Last (but not least) is the Walk-In-Robe for the Master bedroom. This has been a pain in our butt since we have lived here – it has had two shoe racks and two movable clothing racks in there. One rack each, and then we each had to use a spare robe at the other end of the house in the spare rooms. So we had clothes everywhere, the racks occasionally gave out under the weight of our clothes and one side would collapse downwards… My shoes were in a plastic crate under the clothes, and the rest was stuffed into our chest of drawers. So yeah, a pain in the butt! We always planned on using the melamine cupboard storage from Bunnings, cos I liked the white sleek look and there were lots of organizer options. However, in the end, to maximize the space we decided against having shelves everywhere and just to try and make it simple. Took a while to come up with a simple design we liked and discuss aspects we didn’t like (wire baskets, no thanks!) but in the end we got there. It also took this long to get around to doing it, mainly cos it was going to be a $1000 job and we couldn’t afford it until now and it always became the DIY that got put at the bottom of the list. It actually came to $960 in the end, including the actual ensembles, racks, screws, poles, wood and extra boards, etc. Worth it, in my opinion! http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b102/paprika_rulz/photo1-8.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b102/paprika_rulz/photo3-3.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b102/paprika_rulz/photo5-2.jpg It was better than I could have hoped for, and there’s still corner unit space and more shelving space to utilize. Plus room up the very top for further storage. So, all in all, it’s been a busy last few months and we are [SLOWLY] ticking off the jobs to be done around the house. We’ll always be looking for ways to improve but for now, despite the fact we're now out of money, I have a fantastic WIR and I am super happy. Re: Building the Sorrento by Scott Park Homes 1463Aug 21, 2014 6:41 pm Oh your WIR makes me excited for my fitout on Monday. Are the photos are your gym of you?? Re: Building the Sorrento by Scott Park Homes 1464Aug 21, 2014 6:53 pm Haha yeah that's me hiding on the edge, I was trying not to be in it but it was impossible to avoid cos of it's sheer size. Re: Building the Sorrento by Scott Park Homes 1465Aug 21, 2014 7:16 pm Sorry should have said around your gym (the framed ones) hehe Re: Building the Sorrento by Scott Park Homes 1466Aug 21, 2014 9:37 pm Looking great, even after 2 years there are always jobs to be done. The money you save on gym membership can now be put into the house or entertainment, nice move! Re: Building the Sorrento by Scott Park Homes 1467Aug 22, 2014 11:42 am Haha no Leanne, they're just cute pinup exercise themed posters Thanks Bradster. That's the idea! And it's still amazing that after 2 years, we still have more things to do... Re: Building the Sorrento by Scott Park Homes 1468Aug 22, 2014 2:51 pm We have our own gym set up too . But I think it's more for show . Coz we don't use it . Lol but we should trust me . Ha ha . Did you do the wir yourself . Hubby is a handy man. Just to get around to doing it . You know the type of man that has lots of jobs going on at once Re: Building the Sorrento by Scott Park Homes 1469Oct 27, 2014 7:01 pm This might seem like a really random question but where did you buy the glass shelf for the shower from?? We're wanting to do the same but concerned about the chrome thingys oxidizing... Are your's ok to use in a wet area? daveandally1 A few little updates. We fitted out most of the garage (shelving sections)... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Dave and I used brackets from Bunnings and planks of leftover wood that we cut up with his parent's table saw. Dirty work but I'm happy enough. There's still stuff on the ground that is being hung up soon (bikes, wheelbarrow) and the crates on the ground will be going into the roof. Then clean floors, yay! We also put a glass shelf up in the shower which makes me uber happy. I was sick of things being piled up on the ledge. Ggrr. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We bought the aerial for the roof but forgot the bracket to actually attach it, so still need that before we can continue... Lol. Dave has been installing network points and powerpoints everywhere when I find a spot is lacking... He just put them in the bedroom yesterday so we can finally watch TV via the Xbox in bed... and he put one in the garage, which he is really excited about cos he had nowhere out there to charge anything before. He had to use the kitchen bench as his charging station for his drill batteries, lol. I've been really involved in Burlesque lately so that's taking a small amount of our income but now the end of the tax year has rolled around, my income may get a tiny increase so we should still be able to save a bit... Money has been the biggest issue but Dave is only 6-12 months away from completing his apprenticeship...
