In the old days the slad used to sit for months before bricks! And now they whack them up so fast! Can wait to be doing the drive by and actually seeing stuff happen!!! Re: Building the Sorrento by Scott Park Homes 142Mar 19, 2012 11:51 pm Thanks Jennifer, hopefully soon! My Mum keeps telling me how THEIR first home that they bought (for $38,000 in 1972) was a shell. No floors, no laundry, no tiling, no paint, no benches, NADA. She always brings it up whenever I start talking about THIS colour bench or THAT colour tile or THESE curtains...etc. Re: Building the Sorrento by Scott Park Homes 143Mar 20, 2012 11:29 am Good to put it all in perspective We will probably have concrete floors when we move in And that time sequence photo/film sounds fantastic! Would it matter if you did it every few days rather than every day? And yup, I'd have bailed if tradies were there too! Are you girls going to take beer or food for the tradies as they build?? Re: Building the Sorrento by Scott Park Homes 144Mar 20, 2012 12:51 pm I suppose it wouldn't matter if I took photos every day or every few days at the moment, since nothing is happening. But I also want to put the time lapse video to music, and since most sings are 3 minutes-3.5 minutes long (180 seconds-210 seconds), I want to have at least that many photos so it's a little over 1 second per photo. Too fast and you won't see anything, too slow and you won't notice it growing. If that makes sense. So far I have eight photos...of nothing!! I think I might take treats. I make a mean cupcake :-p It's always an incentive. I have family members who are tradies, including DP, and I know they appreciate it when they've been working hard. DP is a sparkie apprentice so he spends lots of time in roofs and is always grateful on hot days when the owner offers him a drink. Re: Building the Sorrento by Scott Park Homes 145Mar 21, 2012 12:17 am From looking at our block today (with nothing happening on), I think someone has already vandalised. the rebar for the slab has been out the front for a week now with the poles and pipes under it, and today I found the poles had been pulled out from underneath (two or so missing) and the bag of pipes and lids has been torn open. *cries* nothing has even started and already the thieving begins Re: Building the Sorrento by Scott Park Homes 146Mar 21, 2012 1:21 am That sucks - at least your stuff is builder owned and they have to deal with it. We just had our non-standard wall tiles nicked, and had to buy them again as they aren't insured grrrrr. Aaron Re: Building the Sorrento by Scott Park Homes 147Mar 21, 2012 1:23 am Maybe I should have taken photos every day - I go past so see if anything is happening to ours every morning (our son is going to school around the corner in preparation). So often nothing at all happens..... Aaron Re: Building the Sorrento by Scott Park Homes 148Mar 21, 2012 11:15 am Aaron, so you're owner builder? That's horrible to have the tiles stolen! What kind of creeps wander around in the middle of the night and pinch people's things? Sometimes I think society is getting along okay and then this kind of thing happens and it makes me angry again! Good that you drive by every morning...I figured that visiting it so often, you see when things a) go missing, or b) when things are done and you notice the change. Re: Building the Sorrento by Scott Park Homes 149Mar 21, 2012 1:19 pm Wow, can't believe stuff gets stolen!! My boss had his hot water system stolen the night before handover. Thankfully it was covered by insurance cause if it had been the next night, they'd have to pay!! Sadly I think it's a lot of inside people who do it Yup, will definitely take something up to tradies then Ooooh, how long til your hubby is qualified? You should keep that quiet on this forum Re: Building the Sorrento by Scott Park Homes 150Mar 21, 2012 1:33 pm Am considering sleeping on the floor of the garage until handover to protect my things Hehehe, he hates it when I 'advertise' him. He's in his second year but should be able to sign off 6 months earlier (from his total 3.5 years) so hopefully end of 2013 he will be qualified and finish the apprenticeship he's also a very good handyman/computer tech, so I'm always volunteering him for odd jobs he built a cat run for our cats at my Mum's place, and also paved her backyard, he did a friend's cabling for internet, he rebuilt another friend's computer and is going to be doing our soakwells/cabling/fencing/air con when we move into our place.... like I said, he hates it when I 'advertise' him. But he's just so good at everything!! The deal was, I have handled ALL the paperwork/decisions/contracts up until now so my part is mostly over. Once we move in, I'm helping but it's his time to shine How lucky that they stole the HWS just before handover! Not lucky they stole, jus lucky they did when they did. What a nice welcome-in present, having to pay to replace something expensive. Glad insurance covered it A friend of ours is an ex-bricklayer and he has terrible stories of how much stuff actually gets nicked from site. Even by some of the tradies, though I assume it's more the after-dark-loiterers. This person had their whole house stolen! http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/quee ... 6213861778 Re: Building the Sorrento by Scott Park Homes 151Mar 21, 2012 1:52 pm Those poor people having their house stolen! People are terrible! And so lucky for the Hot Water system! There is a lot of building site theft/vandalism! People will take anything! Even window frames which you wonder how they get any benefit from stealing it, but they take them to scrap metal places and get money for it! Ally (or anyone), if you see anyone doing anything wrong on any of the building sites near you you should call the HIA hot line, if you are driving later when trades not there, you might see people lurking!!! I am worried for our house as we are in a completed area (except for us LOL) and people will probably take the chance to dump ** on my block! http://www.hianameandshame.com.au/ RARG @ people! I "liked" the HIA on facebook and they post when things happen which is a lot but then they also have the "Name and Shame" and they catch and prosecute a fair few people! I would sleep on the floor of the garage anyway just to be in the new house Jen Building with HomeGroupWA (started as Scott Park Homes ) - Grand Wisteria Check out my Build Thread!! Time line on P1. Re: Building the Sorrento by Scott Park Homes 152Mar 21, 2012 2:03 pm I will keep the Name and Shame in mind I go by the block every day, usually after work when all the tradies have left, so I will keep an eye out... Hehe... I can see you in a rollup bed in the garage when the tradies come in. "What are you doing?" "Sleeping. This is my house." "But it's not finished yet." "MINE! GO AWAY! RARGH!" Re: Building the Sorrento by Scott Park Homes 153Mar 21, 2012 2:58 pm Hi Ally I am new to this but have seen you are building with Scott Park as well. We are the same stage have had the tap put in power earth works and steel mesh delivered. Has anything else happened to your house yet? I drive past everyday ( I only live a few streets away) looking for changes its so disappointing when nothing’s happened but these things take time. Also get disappointed when the kids next door think that the block is there playground when it’s just been cleared. Building Sovereign by Scott Park Re: Building the Sorrento by Scott Park Homes 154Mar 21, 2012 3:10 pm Hi rac88! Another SPH'er! Nothing else has happened yet, so I guess you and I are at the same stage....waiting for ANYTHING to happen! I haven't been there yet today though so I might be surprised when I visit it after work...doubt it though! Good that you only live a few streets away, that will be handy at moving time! I feel the same way when I see footprints on the block when I know no one else has been there...I feel like sitting at the front of the block with a rocking chair and a shotgun, shaking my fists at the neighbourhood kids! Hopefully action will happen soon for both of us! There's a few SPHers on here at the moment. Check out the threads for Chuffy, enelya and wreth01! Re: Building the Sorrento by Scott Park Homes 155Mar 21, 2012 10:24 pm ........I went by the block this afternoon.

Re: Building the Sorrento by Scott Park Homes 157Mar 22, 2012 9:34 pm Dave and I went there this evening to sit on the block in our camping chairs and eat pizza, and found that they have been back there today.... the string between the pegs have been removed, and they have dug a thin line around where the edge of the slab will be! Woooo! So we sat in the middle of the future dining area on our camping chairs and watched the sunset. It was sooo nice, and lovely to be able to see exactly where the outline our house/rooms is on the block. (then we got attacked by mosquitos after the sun went down and had to run for it.... ) Am wondering, since there is still no sign of a porta potty... When does this actually turn up? Re: Building the Sorrento by Scott Park Homes 159Mar 23, 2012 6:30 pm Hi Ally, I had my prestart today and will be building the Princeton 260 with Scott Park homes. It was an enjoyable experience and my prestart changes adds up to around $9000. I'm waiting for them to give me the costing for GU10 lamp holder fittings and was wondering if you have them in your prestart costings? Thanks Re: Building the Sorrento by Scott Park Homes 160Mar 23, 2012 6:48 pm its begun!!!!!!!! (properly!)
