Two weeks away from handover and our builder has made a major scheduling error.
We met our building supervisor on site two days ago and we AGAIN discussed handover date and laying carpet after the timber floor is finished (therefore potentially after handover). This was all fine, no problems at all.
My husband went to take a photo of our new garage doors this afternoon, found one of our sliding doors wide open and to his shock found that we had carpet. This included our lounge, where the painters still haven't painted the skirting board, a bedroom which requires another coat of red paint, and the main bedroom which has an ensuite that the tiler isn't finished in. Apparently the tiler had finished some floor tiles after the carpet had been laid ... the evidence being a mark from his tin on the carpet.
The draftsman stuffed up our walk in wardrobe instructions, putting in extra shelving (which must have looked odd to the carpenters, but again, no site supervisor for two months... no phone call to clarify). Builder agreed this week to fix it... but the wardrobe now has carpet cut around the existing (wrong) shelving.
First our original site supervisor agreed to leave the skirting boards off so our timber floor (real timber over a ply base) didn't completely eliminate them. Unfortunately he was taken ill and we were supervisor-less for two months. In that time the skirting boards were fastened. We at least had agreement from the builder that it wasn't a good idea for the carpet to go in before the timber floor (our installation warranty doesn't cover finish defects due to carpet dust, and we didn't want a carpet full of sawdust).
This from a 'reputable' builder!
What would you say to the builder in this situation?
I am so mad!!
