If you see this before then- Good luck and hope it goes smoothly for you! Re: Boganswife's build- PCI finally booked! 411May 24, 2012 1:24 pm Hi guys, thanks for all the well wishes and congratulations, love the keys! Bit fancier than the ones we got on Friday! So yes, we got keys, but no, we are not in yet. Spent last weekend doing landscaping, what a big job! Our priority was to get a turfed and fenced yard area set up for DS as our property is unfenced and he is a bit of an adventurer. We hired a rotary hoe and a dingo to prep the area and spread topsoil. Hoeing up the clay around the house was hard going, the rotary was struggling with the rock hard ground! We spread that with gypsum to break up the clay over time, and added about 6 cubic metres of topsoil, the good certified stuff from ANL. So a few hours of raking out topsoil by hand and we have 90m2 of lawn area prepped for turf Hopefully having the turf delivered next week so we can lay it out and finish the fence. Retaining wall out the front corner is almost done. We used the dingo to dig out more of the rock hard clay on saturday and marked out the levels and positioning for the posts. Realised we made a boo boo with the planning and we are one retaining post short, oops. We planned on using the auger on the Dingo to drill the post holes, but when DH went to put the auger on it on Sunday, realised the hydraulic fitting was broken and we couldn't use it at all! After many swear words from DH, he resorted to digging 9 post holes in bloody hard clay by hand. Gave himself blisters and all. Took much longer than it would have with the machine, so we didn't get the posts in for the fence or anything, put us a bit behind schedule. Poor DH, I think he went back to work on Tuesday to get some rest! Monday we had the backhoe come and put in my driveway, dig drains along the top side of our cut to keep water away from the house, and trench for us to extend our downpipes away from the house a bit further than what the builder allowed. He was there all day, and we still have more for him to do! So $1000 on roadbase, $450 on topsoil, $900 for backhoe, and probably spending the same again in a few weeks time to finish it off!! Also spent $1500 at Bunnings for retaining posts and fencing for DS's yard. I know what I will be planting behind my retaining wall- money trees!! Glass guy showed up on Monday as well and installed our mirrors, which were forgotten until I pointed it out at handover. Friday was the first time I saw our toilets installed too, which are fancier than I thought we were getting. I thought we were just having ceramic cisterns instead of plastic, but we ended up with the ones that are flush with the wall and easy to clean, and soft close toilet seats Probably not explaining well, will take photo this arv. Also got our mixer tap in laundry finally, and it is a vege sprayer pullout one, which will be fantastic for cleaning my cloth nappies! Yay. So, we will be moving in on 1st June when DH is home next. He is working up in FNQ at the moment and only home every 10 days so it has been really hard for us to organise anything. I have made him take a few extra days off next break to get everything done. Can't wait to be out there! Was just standing out in the yard the other day like a stunned mullet, having a bit of a colorbond moment, leaning on my shovel. DH asked "What are you staring at?", to which I answered... "I love MY house!!!!" He knows it is my house, he just comes to visit sometimes Re: Boganswife's build- WE HAVE KEYS!!! 412May 24, 2012 1:52 pm It's a lovely feeling isn't it ...... Our building thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=51657 Re: Boganswife's build- WE HAVE KEYS!!! 415May 24, 2012 5:32 pm Awesome news . Wow, the landscaping sounds like hard yakka! Well done to both of you I have clay too but at least mine starts from 500mm down. I did a heap of post holes last year and yeah, not fun at all! Keep us posted and best of luck Re: Boganswife's build- WE HAVE KEYS!!! 416May 24, 2012 6:54 pm Yes its a great feeling going in there and knowing its all ours, if not a bit surreal. I am loving being out there in the afternoon when the kangaroos come, and the last of the days sun flooding into our living area on the north side. High 5 for me, think I did ok on the orientation! Landscaping is hard work, but rewarding when its done. Can't wait to get some plants in! Took some photos out there this arv, will try and get them up off my phone... We are going to do the area between house and wall as a rockery with different grade river rock and plant it out with grasses and flax type things. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Took this one just to show how filthy our tiles are! The builders clean left them with a horrible greasy film all over them and then our feet leave nice clean shiny tracks through it! I'm going out to mop it a few times tomorrow, hopefully once it has been cleaned properly it doesn't look so bad. Re: Boganswife's build- WE HAVE KEYS!!! 418May 24, 2012 7:39 pm Looking gorgeous. You are going to love that dishwasher!!!! ESP as you have never had one.
