I'm not on here much anymore, yes I'm one of those naughty people that once they have handover they disappear But I did want to see how your place was progressing. It all looks wonderful & I really do LOVE your purple splashback, what a feature! That woodfire is making me so jealous right now, it's FREEZING in SA today & I could just imagine curling up infront of a fire right now Solid effort on the landscaping too! We are putting ours off until about this time next year Got our landcaping plan back & looks amazing but unfortunately will cost a fortune overall so we have to save some money! Well done on building such a beautiful home, I'll be watching in anticipation of some moved in pics! You are going to love that dishwasher!!!! ESP as you have never had one. We have the same loo and our veg sprayer is in the laundry....whhooooa Oh, I am gonna love the sh!t out of it!! I have been begging for one for years but DH refused. Alright for him, he's never home to do the dishes for me. I'm excited cause it has a cutlery drawer, didn't know I was getting that either! Love these handover surprises! Same loo, same laundry tap set up, same doors... promise I'm not copying. I didn't realise the hose on the tap was so long, it can reach to the door! Very happy about that too. The Vans Looks beautiful! Love your kitchen! Thanks Vans, your place is looking great too. I showed DH photos of your place the other night. Had to show him your giant sand castle and how differently they build over there. Looks so different now the pile has gone Eiffel Looks fantastic!! So impressed with the work you have done in the garden already.....we keep 'thinking' about ours!! Happy Birthday for Monday too!! Hope you light yourself a fire and have a cuddle with DS in front of it to celebrate!! Keep thinking about it, doing is too hard! I will just be happy when I can go outside without being covered in either sticky clay or bulldust, depending on the weather Also, our sparkling clean windows are filthy again already because of all the bare ground around the house. I will be lighting that fire ASAP, just have to chop some wood first! Got bigger fish to fry at the moment. I think it will be a while before we can lay back and relax! Thanks for the Bday wishes Broom YAY Jess! Congrats on getting your keys! Well done on building such a beautiful home, I'll be watching in anticipation of some moved in pics! Hello stranger! I will try not to be guilty of doing a disappearing act once we move in, I think I will have new things happening to share for quite a while! That's a shame your landscaping has to be put off for a while, but probably not the best time of year to be putting new stuff in anyway- too hard to establish lawn and plants in winter- especially if it is really cold down there already, and if you get frosts, not good for new plants. I keep checking back in on your thread to see if you have posted anything new. I figured you are busy enjoying your beautiful new home and general mummy stuff. Can't wait to see your landscaping plan and how it comes together. Wish we could afford to pay someone to do it, but just too many other things we need or want to do that cost lots of money... Ordered our blinds yesterday for master bedroom, theatre, rumpus and dining. We are having blockout rollers everywhere except living/Dining which will be sunscreen rollers, a sunscreen panel glide for the living stacker, hope it all looks ok. We (read "I") decided to favour view over privacy, hope I don't hate them. I still need to do something for DS room but just can't decide! Think I will just do some cheap eyelets on a nice rod until I decide what kind on blind to go underneath. Window dressing is hard We are doing a nice thick blockout curtain and pelmet in the master over the blinds too- I like my darkness, quilty of sleeping with eyes partially opened. And need to do 4 metres of wall to wall ceiling to floor blockout for the theatre, think I will get the continuous curtaining from spotlight for that and an extendable track. 4 metres of pelmet, gah! It's all just too much for my brain. Also gotta organise solar before end of June so we dont miss out on the recs. Just on the topic, while I am rambling on- our solar hot water is going hard core! It has 3 big panels Water is so lovely and hot, and because we aren't out there using it daily the tank is overflowing! It's a 450 litre tank, I don't think we will run out of hot water in a hurry, and hopefully we wont have to boost much over winter. Can't wait to try out the shower!! Or A nice hot bath Re: Boganswife's build- WE HAVE KEYS!!! 423May 25, 2012 11:25 am Wow it all looks so beautiful, what brand dishwasher do you have? Mine has cutlery draw and I wouldn't go without one now, just trying to work out which brand to go with for the new house. HAPPY BIRTHDAY for Monday You did really great with the landscaping and retaining wall, how nice will it be to have lawn in Near the alfresco when you move in, it will keep some of the sand out. Your wood heater looks fantastic, it appears to be very cold this year all over Australia, even here in Karratha is cold in the mornings and night, still warms up beautifully during the days but we have goosebumps in the morning and it's 1 degree in Perth with ice around the place so that means it dropped below 0 degrees. Enjoy your new house and keep those photos coming Re: Boganswife's build- WE HAVE KEYS!!! 424May 25, 2012 12:56 pm Our dishwasher is Omega, just what the builder supplies. I have read good and bad things about them, will give a review once I'm out there using it. It has a good variety of programs on it, heavy duty long cycles as well as a 60min and a 30 min. Also has just a rinse cycle. If we were supplying our own I probably would have went for a Bosch or similar, but this one is about mid range so should be ok. I guess it probably helps that I have never had one before, so probably have low expectations! Just have to find out what detergent I can use as we have an aerobic waste water treatment system and I don't want to mess with it. They were meant to leave the info for us but don't know where it ended up. I'm one of those people who actually reads manuals and instructions! Re: Boganswife's build- WE HAVE KEYS!!! 425May 25, 2012 1:04 pm Prob just baking soda ( which does work) Or will that kill the bacteria too..? I use my veg sprayer to wash the dog on the deck. I positioned the sink so the tap can reach outside. Up here for thinkin! I liked your comment re your log in. You are all class, but it is first, unlike hubby, who is under class. Re: Boganswife's build- WE HAVE KEYS!!! 426May 25, 2012 1:26 pm Bahaha, will have to tell him he is under class! He thinks he's not a bogan. He likes to shoot things, drives a big loud car, builds old v8 holdens, goes to town in filthy yard clothes and thongs, only shaved once a week. I guess he doesn't scratch his balls in public or wear his hair in a mullet, so he's not a full blood redneck... I use Eco store laundry powder which is fully plant based and no phosphates, and they make a dishwasher powder so might try that. Will try your suggestion too, thanks. Is there stuff you can't use with your gravity fed system? Re: Boganswife's build- WE HAVE KEYS!!! 427May 25, 2012 1:37 pm No, not that we were told?! But who knows...cos we need bacteria too. Mind you I think we can keep that bacteria fed ourselves..so any chemicals we use, won't even effect it, compared to what we can feed it ourselves. Re: Boganswife's build- WE HAVE KEYS!!! 428May 25, 2012 2:21 pm Yeah that's what I reckon, all those stinky boy germs going in there should be able to overpower a little bit of dunny cleaner! If Glen 20 can't kill it, I think it should survive in the tanks no problem! Seriously though, I think you would have to put a huge amount of bleach or something in to kill off all the bacteria. Will see what the installer has to say... Meeting the inspector at 3 to get our occupation certificate, yeah! Re: Boganswife's build- WE HAVE KEYS!!! 429May 25, 2012 3:33 pm Must have that certificate by now! So an hour of trying to keep a toddler occupied in the rain, who just wants to play in the mud, has eroded my patience! How hard is it to be punctual, or at least have the courtesy to make a phone call? Then that got me home too late to catch the turf farm to place our order for next Friday, so that will have to wait until Monday now! Holy frustration Batman!! Re: Boganswife's build- WE HAVE KEYS!!! 432May 25, 2012 5:08 pm I know, I am probably being unreasonable expecting a tradesman or someone in the building profession to actually show up on time, or at all! One of my lovely friends has offered to take ds off my hands tomorrow so I can get some stuff done out at the house. I think I will use the time to mop the tiles a few times and try and get the film off them. I feel really lucky to have some great friends, its nice to know someone will put their whole day out, just to make your life a little bit easier. Mclaren, what do you (or DH) use to clean your tiles? Re: Boganswife's build- WE HAVE KEYS!!! 433May 25, 2012 5:10 pm We had to get the wax cleaned off first but he now uses a spray bottle with water and some eucalyptus oil in it and a microfibre mop ... the secret is not to wet the floor too much ... works a treat. Enjoy your weekend ..... nice to have friends isn't it? Re: Boganswife's build- WE HAVE KEYS!!! 434May 25, 2012 5:28 pm Thanks for the tip with the water bottle, great idea. Usually I just mop with boiling water and lavender eucalyptus oil and a microfibre mop so I'm on the right track. Got some tile cleaner because we still have some red clay on the grout in places. Might mop with this, then towel off, them with clean water and towel off, then use your method. Friends sure do make life worthwhile! There are the kind that drain your energy, and the kind that feed your soul, I'm lucky to have a few of the latter who I love to bits! It's taken me some years to distinguish between the two. Friends are the familyyou choose for yourself, love my "sisters". Re: Boganswife's build- WE HAVE KEYS!!! 435May 25, 2012 8:53 pm Looks wonderful Jess! Good luck with everything. We also have turf arriving Friday so will be doing that on saturday morning before we start moving stuff over. Yesterday I went out there with plans to mop the tiles and get the residue off. Started the first going over, thought I would scrub the grout where it needed it with a grout brush. Of course this progressed to me on my hands and knees scrubbing every inch of grout on over 100m2 of tiles with a 2 inch brush! My knees are so sore today and I have blisters on my hands, I must be insane. Managed to get all the clay stains out of the grout though. The amount of paint overspray on them shocked me, came off fairly easily though. So 5 hours of that and I never got around to actually mopping them properly, but they look a million times better now. Went to work today for a rest, all my muscles are sore! Re: Boganswife's build- WE HAVE KEYS!!! 439May 28, 2012 8:12 pm I will be the shoe sheriff! nobody will offer to help us ever again. But at least my grout will stay white. Re: Boganswife's build- WE HAVE KEYS!!! 440May 29, 2012 10:47 am Congratulations, on your lovely new home. It looks great. I love your floors, but personally would never install them, as they are hard to look after. You see everything on them and I am a bit fanatic about streaky floor, lol. Job well done though... Thank you so much everyone. This all makes a lot of sense. I guess when you talk to a builder who butters up everything to look very polished, you get to start believing… 7 17628 Thanks mate. Yeah good points! Leaning towards Option 3 to get a bit extra space in the cabinets but not going too crazy high (and expensive).
