That is really sloppy workmanship Re: Building in Magill SA 42Apr 10, 2012 11:44 am Unbelievable .... Re: Building in Magill SA 44Apr 20, 2012 7:56 pm Kitchen and stone top is finally complete. It's all a bit too white for my liking but it's what she wanted - makes life easier that way. We have a ton of storage space which is good and ample bench space for food preparation. Undecided on the splash back. If it's up to me we'll either have a red splash back and a yellow front door, or a yellow splash back and a red front door. We'll see who wins this one I haven't been happy with our wall colour from the start. We're using Feather White and it was chosen by our interior designer together with my partner. The house gets plenty of light which does brighten it up a bit but as you can see from the photos it is quite dark. I'm thinking about making a unanimous decision and changing it to paper white. When the stone guys installed the island tops , they did some polishing of the drops and let the polishing slurry well up on the floor. It seems no attempt has been made to protect the floor or mop up the mess. Our timbers at this stage are unsealed and I hope that when it comes to sanding and polishing the floor the water damage wont be visible, otherwise the stone people will be up for a very expensive repair. One tile has bee cracked and the other has some markings which I cant replace. This occurred when they installed the toilet. The problem here is we have under floor heating in the glue layer of the tiles (green circle). Replacing both tiles will result in the heating electrodes being damaged rendering the under floor heating useless. So do you rip up the whole floor and redo the heating and tiles or just replace the damaged tiles and accept that the underfloor heating will be rendered useless. I think the plumber will get a big bill for this one. Did you get this sorted out. Our underfloor bathroom heating was in the screed. I didn't realise people did it on top of the screed in the tile glue. Slab Down: 2/6/11 Moved in 13/3/2012 Current Status : Waiting for the garden to grow. I didn't realise people did it on top of the screed in the tile glue. the broken tile was replaced, the heating element was not in this area. The stained tile did have the heating element below it so if we removed it we would have removed the whole floor and redone the heating. Apparently ( I haven't inspected it yet) they were able to polish out the stain so that tile did not have to be removed. The plumber was very apologetic for the "roughness" of his apprentices. The tiler didnt charge any extra, however we did have to buy another box of traventine which the plumber agreed to cover the costs. I'll be having a good look at the site tomorrow if time permits and will be paying attention to the stain Re: Building in Magill SA 47May 28, 2012 2:24 pm Hi - how are things going? Hope you don't mind but I wanted to ask you about console tables ... I know you have done really well in sourcing furniture from interstate to get the best price - we've been looking everywhere and can't find a really good console/hall table for our entry. Have you got any ideas? Thanks Annette For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: Building in Magill SA 48May 30, 2012 12:05 pm Hi Annette, I slowed things down with our build as I have been too busy work wise to keep the momentum going, regardless I'm thinking things will be finished in about a month. It's probably worth taking a trip to Melbourne as they have such a huge range on display at their various stores. Or you may want to try Furniture Design Australia on Goodwood Road who can make what you want. Re: Building in Magill SA 49May 30, 2012 2:41 pm Thanks and good luck with the last leg of your build!!
