Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building in Magill SA 21Jan 13, 2012 8:32 am Thanks all I designed the orientation of the house to make maximum use of the sun, even the solar panels had an area created for them so they cant be seen from the street yet still get maximum sun. The whole inside of the house gets really good light from sun up to sun down. I dont like houses with dark areas. The painters are there now - not so sure of the colour though, may have a bit too much grey in it. I'll see what it's like by end of the day, if I'm not happy with it I'll change it. I'm quite happy with it but unfortunately I'm the type of person who cant sit still and I'm already sketching up ideas for the next house - much to my partners frustration. Re: Building in Magill SA 22Jan 13, 2012 10:35 am Looks great, we're going for the "open" feel too !! We need to talk about your lighting ! Looks like you've go a lot of down-lights happening in the living/dining/kitchen area, can I ask what type you're going for, what spacing and how many ? Thanks, P_D . Thanks, P_D we're using the D1000 brightgreen LED's and having two pendants over the dining room table. Spacing is approx 1500, and in the kitchen area about 1400. the kitchen will have down lights mounted under the overheads as well. You can never have enough light IMHO Re: Building in Magill SA 24Jan 30, 2012 3:41 pm just an update: bathroom under tile heating in place. Tiling starts this week. First flight of stairs also installed. Now to find an innovative refrigerative engineer to construct a wine fridge that can fit under the first flight stair well Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Building in Magill SA 25Jan 30, 2012 4:27 pm *drools* 5.5m Terrace House - Lightsview (Northgate SA) Moved in!! - 22 February 2013 /viewtopic.php?f=31&t=53455 Re: Building in Magill SA 26Feb 04, 2012 5:25 pm tiling underway and front door installed laundry Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ powder room Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ ensuite - silver traventine on the floor and going up one wall Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ front door - it will be painted a burgundy colour. I purchased all my ceiling speakers from the US at a huge discount to the prices in Australia. Natuzzi lounges have been order, we ended up getting them from melbourne, $2100 cheaper than the Adelaide price, pity Adelaide wouldnt price match or even try to, instead telling us that transport will be costly. Excellent, Can I please ask what ones you went for and where you got them from ? We're looking to put five speakers in the ceiling (LF/C/RF/LR/RR), while good for the whole general "surround" thingy, we're more after the "hard of hearing" thingy !! amgsl55 .......Natuzzi lounges have been order, we ended up getting them from melbourne, $2100 cheaper than the Adelaide price, pity Adelaide wouldnt price match or even try to, instead telling us that transport will be costly. Only $340. Good news, Sad they won't match prices but good for you ! I'll remember that if we go down the new lounge-suite road, which I think Mrs P_D is planning !!! amgsl55 .......the two large joinery doors will give us access into the walk in pantry we've gone for miele appliances and after much debate an induction cook top. Ah ha....Our latest kitchen design has us doing something like this with the joinery doors, which I didn't know were called that until last week !! We're also looking at Miele appliances, oven / steam oven / induction cooktop. We've never used an induction cooker, but no-one has anything bad to say about them ! Cheers, P_D . I'm also looking at sourcing some audio equipment and my BBQ rangehood from the US - the savings are too good to not say no. For my lights I've been scouring the net and found excellent savings from various online shops. All my miele appliances I have already, I kept going to the shops and snapping things up when display models come up for sale - again here I've saved a significant amount of money. Re: Building in Magill SA 30Feb 22, 2012 8:44 am Thanks for that, Been Googling speakers and seems you've made a good choice, less then 50% of the AUS price ............ //Facepalm !! P_D . P_D and the best part is $20 shipping costs - by ship so will take 3-4 weeks I bought mine via amazon I'll be buying my nuvo grand concerto from the US as well Re: Building in Magill SA 32Feb 22, 2012 9:11 am Wow ... can't wait to see that kitchen .. so much storage Stairs and floor are looking good - love the fireplace and stackstone ... well done on making all those savings - you are a canny shopper! For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: Building in Magill SA 33Feb 26, 2012 7:30 pm P_D, On Friday I received an email from amazon cancelling my speaker order as the retailer wont ship to Aus ( despite it being a shipping destination option). Anyway, I opened up an account with one of those third party 'ship to' organisations and reordered the speakers - postage will be a little more but compared to Aussie prices, large savings made. Re: Building in Magill SA 34Feb 28, 2012 4:38 pm just bought our main light for our entry. Found a retailer who had it on display and graciously offered to sell it to us half price, will be put in a crate tomorrow and make its way to Adelaide from Brisbane. We've been looking for a long time for a main light this one ticks the box for price and appearance....so happy! http://www.alti.com.au/products/genie-chandelier Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Building in Magill SA 35Feb 28, 2012 8:09 pm amgsl55 Hi P_D ..............and my BBQ rangehood from the US - the savings are too good to not say no. I guess you may have all ready considered it, however any electrical appliance from the USA runs on 110 volt not 240 volt, so you will need a transformer to reduce the voltage. I think I'll have a chat to my sparkie about it thanks for the heads up Re: Building in Magill SA 37Feb 28, 2012 8:44 pm DingoD64 amgsl55 Hi P_D ..............and my BBQ rangehood from the US - the savings are too good to not say no. Apart from the ones that run on 220v !! BTW, It's not a commonly known fact, but the Australian Standard 60038 (since February 2000) specifies the Australian mains voltage to be 230v +10% - 6%. Not all States / generators follow the AS ! P_D . I agree to both ouch's It's worth shopping from melbourne. we gave them an address of a relative in melbourne for their paperwork, they wouldnt accept and adelaide address, but requested that they store the lounges and we will pick it up. Anyway, order was placed late Jan, it arrived from Italy last week. Adelaide has a bit of catching up to do. Re: Building in Magill SA 40Apr 10, 2012 10:24 am Slowly slowly we are progessing, however not without some issues which is mostly caused by tradespeople not paying attention to details Draws wont open because the doors are in the way with one of the upstairs walk in robes http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c191/amgsl55/photo15.jpg Our pantry is accessed through joinery doors in the kitchen. On the original design the doors are to be full height with a shadow line to make them look like two separate doors, however this was translated to a final design and construction to look be an opening 1900 high with a separate cupboard on top Pity we'll keep hitting our head whenever we enter the pantry. The joiner isn't happy because the final design was approved by my partner and inspected by her, however I believe he needs to take responsibility as it is a bit negligent to have an opening so low that only a dwarf will be happy with it. He's been told to fix it. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c191/amgsl55/photo16.jpg Our plumbers have let the apprentices loose on the job leaving a path of destruction behind them. The stone ensuite top was cracked. The boss insists only because of a hair line crack prior to them installing the sinks. Our photos say otherwise, luckily the apprentices told the joiners that they were banging in the sinks with a mallet when the top cracked. It's been replaced with the costs to be taken off the plumbers bill. More concerning is what they did to my traventine floor. One tile has bee cracked and the other has some markings which I cant replace. This occurred when they installed the toilet. The problem here is we have under floor heating in the glue layer of the tiles (green circle). Replacing both tiles will result in the heating electrodes being damaged rendering the under floor heating useless. So do you rip up the whole floor and redo the heating and tiles or just replace the damaged tiles and accept that the underfloor heating will be rendered useless. I think the plumber will get a big bill for this one. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c191/amgsl55/photo17.jpg http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c191/amgsl55/ensuite.jpg Thanks for your reply.
