Thats the only thing Im not 100% happy with is our laminate flooring (looks different to display) but something we can change down the track, should have gone with the real timber but trying to save money. The laminate flooring (timber look) came with the house at no cost. Yes we did have to speak up about the "allowance" and lucky we did. Yours wont be long now, just keep on them. I will download some photos Re: Bron's Building Bonanza (melbourne) - 12 months in, ? to 170May 22, 2012 1:36 pm Yes, we're doing flooring after handover. We felt this would be better for a number of reasons - we thought we'd get a better quality installation, the choices seemed fairly limited through Simonds, it was likely to be cheaper, and we could leave the decisions until the house was nearly complete. Re: Bron's Building Bonanza (melbourne) - BB is watching! 171May 24, 2012 7:45 am Found a bit of a surprise at the site today - light on the balcony, garage door open, and a big pole in the middle of the front garden. There was a new sign on the fence for 'iDetect - Security Video Surveillance. Unauthorised entry will result in immediate security/police response'. Of course there was still no lock on the gate... Kind of freaked me out a bit. Now we can't even go around and look through windows to see what's been done. Has anyone else had something like this installed? Seems a bit strange this late in the build. Re: Bron's Building Bonanza (melbourne) - BB is watching! 173May 24, 2012 9:29 am Seemed real enough. If it was just the sign I might have thought that. I did a bit of a search, and they seem to be a fairly recent thing, being tried in melbourne's west in the last 6 months or so. Having heard about a couple of nearly complete big M homes being burnt down last month, I guess I should feel good about my house being protected. It's just funny that my immediate reaction is to feel guilty about having been on site previously. Re: Bron's Building Bonanza (melbourne) - BB is watching! 174May 24, 2012 11:02 am Where in Melbourne West are you building if you don't mind me asking? Maybe they do that to protect from Vandals who visit nearly completed houses for fun or aim to destroy windows/ carpet etc.... I found two people sneaking inside my house couple of weeks back Orchid 4200 with Burbank: Thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=53034 House Built in 7 Months and 2 weeks Re: Bron's Building Bonanza (melbourne) - BB is watching! 175May 24, 2012 11:29 am We're building about 20kms east of melbourne, but I googled the idetect things, and found an article about them being used in melton, caroline springs and a few other places out west. I'm sure it makes sense for them to protect the site, and probably helps with insurance. Re: Bron's Building Bonanza (melbourne) - 3 weeks, about, ma 176May 25, 2012 9:40 am Well, we finally had some contact with the builder - a site meeting this morning with our SS. The security alarm thing is apparently just a standard thing they do now towards the end of the build. No damage or theft had happened to trigger it. The house has now been cleaned, and all the plastic removed from the windows, and everything looks brighter and better. I still think the bathroom stones are too dark, but that's my own fault I guess. I didn't anticipate how dark the grout would be. While we were there the caulking was being done, and according to the SS we seem to have work booked in every day for the next week, including sunday. The most exciting news - QA is booked in for the 5th June, so maybe PCI on the 8th, and then possibly handover on the 15th! Re: Bron's Building Bonanza (melbourne) - 3 weeks, about, ma 177May 25, 2012 9:45 am Dates .... For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: Bron's Building Bonanza (melbourne) - 3 weeks, about, ma 178May 25, 2012 10:08 am Oh wow Bron, how exciting, I'm so happy for you Have you arranged blinds lights etc?? You well and truly won the race, we aren't even at lockup, although we have received the invoice Re: Bron's Building Bonanza (melbourne) - 3 weeks, about, ma 179May 25, 2012 10:42 am Blinds? Lights? Ummm... no. That's fairly far down on my priority list. Floors are number 1. I've organised my beautiful spotted gum boards, but still yet to decide on carpet. Next priority is whatever we need to do to rent out our unit. Carpets will need cleaning and we'll need to tidy up some of the garden after we move the chicken enclosure. Then comes moving, TV antenna, phone, internet, a letterbox. I can handle sheets over the bedroom window for a while. Bathroom windows are all frosted. Besides, I kind of want to see how the flooring looks before I decide what to put on the windows. So much to do!!! And don't even get me started on landscaping (Seriously, don't. I'll start another thread in the landscaping section soon, to record all the ideas floating around in my head) PS. Does anyone actually get to lockup before they send the invoice? As for the race, I think the rain gods handicapped you from the start. I'll sit and watch from the finish line with the champagne until you join me Re: Bron's Building Bonanza (melbourne) - 3 weeks, about, ma 180May 25, 2012 10:19 pm bronj PS. Volume, most defiantly, but spec would vary. If youre doing a knock down, there additional costs associated with that that will eat into your budget… 1 10522 I have posted this before: We hired Darbecca to do every stage inspection, and I strongly recommend them to anyone that asks me. They were amazing. Thorough reports… 2 4949 |
