Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 20, 2011 12:22 am Hi, We are getting a new house built on the ajoining block. I got a copy of the plans and was looking through them and had a few queries. I raised these with the council and they said, "I refer to queries and note that in this instance Council is not responsible for the proposed building work"....and "This is matter where only a building permit is required, as the proposed seeks to construct one dwelling. Your neighbour has a choice of which building surveyor they appoint to approve the building permit.". So with this said, does this mean the council (I'm in Victoria) just washes their hands of the matter? If there is a concern and I raise it with the building surveyor and they go "whatever.." and don't action it, what recourse do I have? VCAT, back to the council? I hope the council does something more than just collect the garbage for all the rate $ I and everyone else pays them annually. Any advice? Also, has anyone ever had a house built next door that didn't comply with the regulations? If so, did you get it fixed prior or after it starting? Thanks, MJ Re: Other Side Of the Fence - New house question 2Sep 20, 2011 8:05 am Hi, I think you need to explain why the new home next door does not meet the regulations. This information will be required to give appropriate advice. Good luck.
