We went evap in this house we are in that we built 18 months ago, it is crap. I work from home and it really gets uncomfortable on Melbournes sticky hot days. We are currently about to start building again (Tarneit is a poo-hole to put it politely and want out) and will be going the reverse cycle Acrtron ESP Ultima system. Re: heating and cooling 4Sep 11, 2011 8:52 am Be warned, a big refrigerated system costs a fortune to run. If your new home is insulated and well designed to minimize summer sun that may help keep the costs of running it though. Re: heating and cooling 5Sep 11, 2011 8:53 am A combination of both is ideal if you have the funds. The evap works really well on hot dry days, but if there are clouds and humidity around they fail miserably, which is when you can use the refridgerative. The evap is way cheaper to run, but the refridge will keep it's cool on humid days at a cost. Re: heating and cooling 6Sep 11, 2011 9:37 am Multi splits that share the same fan coils outside are a good way to go. I am putting around 6 of them in hooked up to 2 fan coils. The good news is you can cool only the zones that you need, and get individual temperature control on the rooms. For my place which is around 60 sq, it turned put to be the only solution due to the lack of space to run ducts (large or small). The downside is it's probably the most expensive way to go, especially if you are putting in a separate radiant/hydronic heating system. my house blog: http://sugarloafdrivebuild.blogspot.com/ Re: heating and cooling 7Sep 11, 2011 11:56 am We have dormer roof style house. Put individual room splits upstairs in the roofline (house is 22mt long) & hydronic heating downstairs. Insulated very well in the roof & walls as well as double glaze windows. Hardly need the splits for heat & only on the hottest days do we need the cooling on. LOVE my hydronic in the living downstairs!!
