Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 06, 2011 12:35 pm Hi guru's. I have always been terrifed of colour and even though we have built a few houses before I always feel safe using 'beige' and bland vanilla colours.....and exterior colours have always been safe and VERY predictable too. We're building our last house...next move will be the coffin. So I need help to break out of my 45+ year old humdrum boring colour coocoon. Picture primarily weatherboard house with colourbond roof. Definately white windows and woodwork trim around them. I want a grey roof and some sort of grey weatherboards. Will also need suggestions on face bricks that will suit the scheme as there will be some brick used, as either full walls or accents (stable/shed will be same materials as house with face bricks up 1 metre for horses). The house doesn't lean toward any period style but rather is single storey ranch type, no bullnose or Australianana ect. I don't like full-on modern and want to steer away from heritage themes. Can anyone throw out some suggestions on grey schemes and tell me whether a lighter or darker shade grey roof would be better. Some dark roofs seem to make houses look squat and top heavy? I have almost driven myself mad and need to make some decisions now but after all the charts I have looked at I am finding my indecision is making me seek comfort in "bland and boring vanillas" again. HELP!! Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7073 Hi - thanks for your reply. Yes I think 'Ill go for whitish with very speckly bits rather than pure white something like this.
