Scrubbing with water does not help as it's hardened and too late. So, can hydrochloric acid be used safely?? I'm thinking of watering it down of course and then using that for scrubbing instead of plain water .. Bucket of water, add a bit of acid (study the instructions first), carefully stir a bit, plain rubber gloves on, dip the brush and scrub the bricks?? If yes, then rinse with clean water? Or no need? I've used it to clean up mortar off bricks but just keep in mind it's acid you're working with and if you get it on your skin, you'll know pretty quick. Use a standard dilution rate for brick cleaning (should be on the bottle), but wear suitable clothing that covers your arms and legs as well, wear safety glasses, and I used acid proof gloves. Get a stiff bristled brush with a long handle so you don't have your face near it. make sure all pets and kids are well away from the area you are working, put the cap back on the bottle of acid in case you knock it over. Just use common sense and avoid getting it on your skin/in your eyes etc and keep your pets and kids away.
