Awww shucks excited. Thankyou. The rear of the house is what sold it to us and it made the best use of our plot. I love being able to stand at the kitchen window and see all of our backyard. hahaha, yes the basins, I found a way to get some real granite into the house! - I really wanted black granite benchtops like yours, but the builder only deals in essa *sob*. I love how you have gone with the thick edges, it really makes a statement and makes the cabinetry look solid. I see boxes of tiles, is your tiler starting soon? Re: Re: Building with Gemmill Homes~ kitchen nearly done 184Jul 22, 2012 2:22 pm Excited - your kitchen looks divine!!!!!!!!!!! Can't wait to see it all finished. Great job on colour choices! Re: Re: Building with Gemmill Homes~ kitchen nearly done 186Jul 24, 2012 9:41 pm love your beautiful bench top in the kitchen. So very beautiful. This is exactly the look of what we originally wanted but we were eyeing off granite and when we by pure luck saw a large sample piece we discovered it had huge brown splodges in it. None on the small sample.grrr Lucky, lucky you. I'm very envious! ( all our colour selection choices had to go out the window 2 days before the colour selection day as the original tiles and laminates didn't suit the new granite chosen. arrghh.) I love your choices. Your kitchen is going too be absolutely amazing. Re: Re: Building with Gemmill Homes~ kitchen nearly done 187Jul 25, 2012 11:45 am Thanks everyone, kexkez i just popped over to your thread and got side tracked by your top soil i finally found kithcen photos and i love your colours, did you seal your granite when you first moved in and do you have to do much with your granite to keep it nice? Caz do you know if your mum and dad do much with their granite? Re: Building with Gemmill Homes~ kitchen nearly done 188Jul 26, 2012 11:14 am Hiya! Black granite is beautiful when it is all clean and shined up. There's a particular "stone" cleaner that mum uses and that's it! If you like your counters to be sparkling clean all the time, black granite will keep you busy. But the result is very rewarding. I don't think they're hard work, you just have to do a normal wipe down first, get rid of the major dirt, then shine it up with the stone cleaner! No elbow grease, just repetition and a bit of time. Re: Re: Building with Gemmill Homes~ kitchen nearly done 190Jul 30, 2012 9:53 pm That sounds ok alt, I thought I would have to seal it often, I will talk to the company that installed it and see what they recomend. Thanks hj84, I love having the sink near the window, I would have liked a corner kitchen with the hotplate near a window as well, I could have stood dreaming out the window when I was cooking or washing at the sink. But I wanted a long homestead style house..... You can't have everything. This is what I do. I do my last wipe with a paper towel so there is absolutely no grease. I use dupont granite and marble bench top cleaner + protector. It will keep you busy, especially around the sink (Our apartment has black granite bench tops throughout - Im going to miss it) Re: Building with Gemmill Homes~ kitchen nearly done 192Aug 02, 2012 12:11 am alt0160 caz_770 There's a particular "stone" cleaner that mum uses and that's it! I use a dry cloth or paper towel to finish off when I want it to look really nice. One bonus of ours being so multicoloured is that dirt( crumbs) doesn't show. So as devastated as I was to miss out on my black granite perhaps it's for the best as we are a mucky lot. 0n a good day 1/2 of the bench is covered by bread/ microwave, bread maker, toaster, clutter anyway. I know that feeling but isn't it great when you do clean all the crumbs and muck off and it looks beautiful I have never had granite but I did build a great country kitchen years ago and I loved it, I would make my own pasta for lasagna (complete take over of the kitchen ) biscuits, bread and cakes and it always cleaned up beautiful. I don't do much cooking of treats where I am because the kitchen is awful crappy and small, I can't wait for my new kitchen Re: Building with Gemmill Homes~ kitchen nearly done 195Aug 18, 2012 4:10 pm Hi excited, just popped in to catch up with you. Anything else happening? Re: Building with Gemmill Homes~ kitchen nearly done 196Aug 18, 2012 8:10 pm Treeseachanger Hi excited, just popped in to catch up with you. Anything else happening? Thanks for poppingin but oh it's soooooo slow, the painter has been and done his first part which is the ceilings and undercoat for the doors, we are waiting for the tiler to come now. That all looks great We have had the second wash of our bricks and they look great, I just wish they would get a move on We went to have a look at Timber floors for our bedroom today, we have some sample to take to the house to see what looks good with the ensuite tiles, they are a green earthy color, that's very exciting Re: Building with Gemmill Homes~ kitchen nearly done 197Aug 18, 2012 8:16 pm The tile sounds exactly right with your selections!!! Has it come out how you imagined? Hubbie loves the big rooster! The ensuite looks great too, if it's better in real life it must be stunning Worth the wait for the pics The OP has gone The latch and striker are definitely not aligned but there was no point trying to help the OP understand that.
