Browse Forums Building A New House Re: JLD's Cayman by PD Framing has started - a couple of pic 81Dec 20, 2011 6:34 am Thanks Cattycat! I think there is quite a bit of wait and see considering they aren't finished yet, oh and I know nothing about building Re: JLD's Cayman by PD Framing has started - a couple of pic 82Dec 21, 2011 7:39 pm Drove past the house as usual today and watched them finish the floor joists for upstairs. When I came back in the afternoon they'd got a fair bit of the outside walls upstairs done! Got a phone call from our BC for our final construction update of the year and was told they are hoping to finish framing on Friday but they won't issue the invoice until Jan 16th as our SS wants to be able to inspect them etc Better earning interest in our account! Two things I could kick myself over.....hate the Electricity meter on our bedroom wall. I asked about getting it moved at tender etc and they said $800 for it to be relocated and I thought that was a bit rich. Now I wish we'd paid the money. From the way it looks to be built in the frame I'm a bit confused as I would have thought it would be bricked and the meter would be on the outside of that but it looks like it's only plaster between the meter box and our bedhead....not happy about that. The other things is the space we've left between the broom cupboard that we added to the Laundry and the wall....we were hoping to use that space for the drying rack but I think we've made the space too small (750mm), not a deal breaker but a tad annoying. Upstairs frames so far - some pics 83Dec 21, 2011 8:34 pm OMGoodness, it looks huuuge Have fun cleaning Great news about not being invoiced until the new year I'm not sure about the meter box, I assume they have to put something between that and the gyprock, wouldnt make sense, but then again i have no idea what they would do Re: JLD's Cayman by PD. Upstairs frames so far - some pics 84Dec 21, 2011 9:10 pm Like you can talk Gogo We'll be moaning about our cleaning together!! Re: JLD's Cayman by PD. Upstairs frames so far - some pics 85Dec 22, 2011 9:25 am Looks fantastic! I can't imagine then not bricking behind the metre box- just ask the SS i am sure he can clarify it for you. BTW you are very lucky about the invoicing! We were invoiced for the frame 3 hours before it was declared finished! lol Forrestdale 27 Land Titled:4/11/11 Building Permit:4/11/11 Site Start Date: 16/11/11 Slab Date: 01/12/11 Frame Date:05/12/11 http://hordefamilyhome.blogspot.com/ Re: JLD's Cayman by PD. Trying not to harass him at the moment as he is going on holiday and with 5 houses to handover before then he probably doesn't need to hear about my meterbox We are very lucky about the Invoice!! Still not convinced they'll be finished by end of tomorrow as they haven't begun roof trusses yet, in fact they haven't been delivered yet. Just went to have a look at the work they've done today, they left the ladder but tied up the gates!! Was nearly a rebel but the sensible side took over and I just peered in. Dying to get upstairs and have a good look! Re: JLD's Cayman by PD. Upstairs frames so far - some pics 87Dec 22, 2011 7:28 pm JLD You're right Sammyjane, I should just ask the SS. You have insulation, plasterboard all the good stuff behind the wall. Its quite normal. Re: JLD's Cayman by PD. Upstairs frames so far - some pics 94Jan 06, 2012 11:49 pm Felt good going through your thread from start to finish & the progress of ur home JLD. I can already see it being a great house. It came down to 2 house types for us - Cayman 41 or Marbella 42 & we have decided Marbella 42 as we had to finally pick one. Paid $1000 deposit for soil test a week ago & waiting for results. Hopefully it can start by end-March 2012. By the way, have you involved independent site inspectors & at what stage should we start involving them & where can I search for one? Upstairs frames so far - some pics 95Jan 07, 2012 8:30 am Welcome to the forums tamugrg As you would have read it wasn't actually our first choice as a floor plan but it grew on us and turns out to be the best decision we made as it ticks all our boxes for our lifestyle. I can definitely relate to you finding it hard to choose between two designs. Just went and checked out the Marbella, love it! Very similar to the Cayman but I like some of the differences too. Are you adding an alfresco or making many changes? Start a thread when you're ready, would love to follow your build. We haven't organised an independent inspector yet but we do know one from when we were about to purchase a house prior to deciding to build. Where are you building? I know a lot of people on the forums have used New home Inspections - Rob & Kevin but we're down on the Bellarine so we will use someone from Geelong. I know he does houses in Lara as well though so I can dig out his details if you need them. We're still really undecided on whether we'll use one or not If you do a search on Independent Inspections on the forum you'll find quite a few threads on it and most people would suggest - frames, pre plaster and PCI as the main ones. Lots of decisions to go for you yet but once you get to the build start you can breathe a lot more Re: JLD's Cayman by PD. Upstairs frames so far - some pics 96Jan 07, 2012 9:17 pm There's quite a bit of similarities between Cayman & Barbella. Would have been happy with either . Changes I am making are making bedroom 5 ensuite, having alfreso in the kitchen side & decreasing theatre room by 1m to make living room slightly bigger. Haven't started my own thread but I intend to start once it is confirmed we will be going to marbella 42 after signing the tender Went to Hopetoun today for pre-inspection of colors for the first time. It was overwhelming. Lots of choices & selections to be made. Will digest it for a week & might go again next weekend. Have selected Mayfair facade which I think is good but will have to decide on the different colours for rendering the facade. Upstairs frames so far - some pics :) 97Jan 09, 2012 6:51 am Hey JLD, I just caught up.. Your frames look fantastic and it was very good of them to wait until after Christmas to invoice you. I found out that our frames were completed from accounts payable and then got a call the next day from my SS to let us know! Are they starting up work again today or do you have to wait until next week? Hopetoun is overwhelming the first time, especially when you don't know how much things are but soon you'll be an old pro Have you joined us on the Porter Davis thread yet? You can ask here or there for prices of upgrades and usually one of us can help you Hey Cattycat, very good of them considering they didn't finish them Still waiting on roof trusses so I'd say the SS knew they wouldn't be done but my BC thought they'd be finished on that last Friday before Chrissie. Not worried, they did scaffolding at the front instead that day. Not sure if they're back today or not, our SS comes back to work today and hopefully will book in a site visit soon so we can meet him and ask some questions. Looking forward to it all starting up again, I think I'm more excited now than I was when we started this whole thing Off to check out your blog to see how yours is going! Re: JLD's Cayman by PD.
