Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 29, 2008 8:53 pm Hello all,
Very confusing, with so many ducted vacuum, alarm and intercom systems to choose from. Some dummy questions: vacuum: 3 hp (horse power) is better than 2hp? Bag-less is the way to go? alarm: wired is always better than wireless? Does upper level need a sensor or not (one of the installer suggests us only installing sensor in the ground level. ) intercom: Will it a standard in the future? Which one are you using? Any good ones to recommend or bad ones to void? Regards, Aulyna Re: Which ducted vacuum, alarm and intercom system? 2Jan 29, 2008 10:52 pm Hi,
you could try crimewatch.com.au (see the about us page) as they may be able to assist. I can see the benefits of a bagless ducted vac unit - I regret not putting one in our current home. Re: Which ducted vacuum, alarm and intercom system? 4Jan 29, 2008 11:20 pm Not sure about brands & features available these days, but.....
Fit the BIGGEST vacuum motor options available. Get quotes on the AIR-WATTS that the motor/s produce. This is the best measure of vacuum/airflow performance. A simple, straight-forward piping system is best, as all elbows & bends affect air-flow and performance. Suggest you use the search function to look up previous discussions on DUCTED VACUUM SYSTEMS. Ash. Re: Which ducted vacuum, alarm and intercom system? 5Jan 30, 2008 9:50 am re built vacs.
Bagless is best - cyclones never need to be emptied and with a dust filter the motro lasts for years. Have a look at star-vac. http://www.starvac.com.au/index.html They are made in oz and my old man (who installed Vacuumaids for many years in the 80's) say's that the starvac uses the same motor as the vacuumaid, but the rest of the unit is built in OZ. Re alarms. - go wit a sensor upstairs - it's not hard to put in and gives extra coverage if they break in upstairs and not downstairs. And use wires for the alarm - why go wireless unless running cables is too hard. (wireless has a greater risk of the data being sniffed and the code cracked in the future) Steve Re: Which ducted vacuum, alarm and intercom system? 6Jan 30, 2008 10:02 am Aulyna_1 vacuum: 3 hp (horse power) is better than 2hp? Generally speaking - yes. 3hp is about 2200 watts (about) - this relates to the power consumption. What I'd also be comparing is the RPM of the system. In theory the higher the watts/hp, the higher the RPM. Expect the RPM for a 3hp to be close to 30,000 RPM. Can't recommend any systems though. Good luck. Hi everyone!
