Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 23, 2011 10:04 pm Hello all,
After looking up info regarding building I discovered this site and forum! We are building a Piazza 250 style home through AV Jennings. After the bumpy start (thanks to council) we are at frame stage. I am hoping that we will be in earlier than expected....but not sure :S If things keep up at the speed they are we will definitely be in by xmas, not the expected 28th Feb 2012 If there is anyone else out there who have or are building with AV let me know your thoughts? I was so happy to find a similar thread on this site which has helped us so much through the beginning process Thank you ness'n'troy! Please feel free to comment about your own building experiences. I need all of the advice being a first time builder Thank you all and I will be posting regular updates about our dream house Kelly Re: Our Piazza Dream Home ;) 2Aug 24, 2011 5:47 am welcome Kelly, I have not built with av jennings, but looking forward to following your build!! Re: Our Piazza Dream Home ;) 3Aug 24, 2011 8:22 am Hello kiwi This is my first build and we fell in love with the design. We hadnt heard anything too negative about AVJ and went ahead with it. So far my only concerns are for the finish date Knowing it can be finished quicker makes me hopeful that it can be done. I went past my house yesterday and woohoo!!! we have the frame of the roof 90% finished! I will post pictures soon. Kiwi who have you built with? Kelly Re: Our Piazza Dream Home ;) 4Aug 24, 2011 9:36 am yay I found you!! :) Now you just have to post some pics Re: Our Piazza Dream Home ;) 5Aug 24, 2011 10:09 am we built here in nz. we had a local builder who was a machine. mostly worked alone, 12 weeks from slab down we were in. I KNOW! I have told him some of the h1 girls want to send him an airfare so he can build theirs we have been in since end march, LOVE IT on the first page of my thread (see below) are some pics of our countryside. we live in the whop woops nice though, looks like the southern highlands of nsw, if you know that area Re: Our Piazza Dream Home ;) 6Aug 24, 2011 3:00 pm Hi there neighbour! wow, 90% of the roof! i drove past tues, but not yesterday......they did heaps in one day! good to hear Re: Our Piazza Dream Home ;) 7Aug 24, 2011 3:59 pm I just read this thread, did you see it? viewtopic.php?f=31&t=50413 Re: Our Piazza Dream Home ;) 8Aug 24, 2011 10:13 pm Kiwi absolutely gorgeous! I just had a look and wow! Congrats on your new home! and in 12 weeks?!?! I think I will pay your builder to come over and help mine lol I have tried to post pics but I dont know how :S My area is lovely too and we are right on the edge of suburbia. Behind us is a local farm with trees and hills. It is so quiet and peaceful! wildorchid Great to hear from you and oh I know! They managed to put most of the roof up yesterday....but unfortunately today no progress Would you believe I called my customer service rep today and he has gone on leave? I wasnt even notified! lol...luckily I found someone who was so much help and made me feel better about the process. The lack of communication is driving me bonkers! We have invested a lot of money into this home and I feel a bit out of the loop! Hopefully things will get better Kel Re: Our Piazza Dream Home ;) 9Aug 25, 2011 9:37 am hey, to post pics you need to upload them on photobucket first. Then just paste the image code on this page. Im hoping it will look okay But im always second guessing it. ah well too late now I guess hehe I called my Customer Service Rep (after he went on leave for 2 days and I didnt know) and asked for an update. He couldnt give me one! what the?? Says he has a mtg 2moro with the builder and that he will know more then. Nice tree We have the light bricks and render with the black roof and it looks great so dont stress. And the black door will look great! Do you mean black front door or roller door? Re: Our Piazza Dream Home ;) 15Aug 27, 2011 9:01 am Thank you Ness I fell in love with the block because of the tree but it did give us some hassles with council. grrr I am having both black front and roller door black in contrast with the light colour render. Your house looks lovely so I am hopeful it will turn out Yesterday I was told bricks will start this coming week! woohoo!!! Monday the entire frame should be complete and then bricks tues! YEY! Re: Our Piazza Dream Home ;) 16Aug 28, 2011 12:32 pm visiting our block today and we have noticed our second concern. The eves on the house are NO where near long enough! I have taken photos and compared with other houses but they only come out about 20 cm! Not even enough for our gutters! Noooooooo! let the headache begin! Re: Our Piazza Dream Home ;) 17Aug 28, 2011 1:07 pm Ok...so here are the photos of the eaves.....does anyone else think they should be longer than this?
We paid extra to increase the pitch of the roof. There should be eaves longer than this shouldn't there? I have no idea re if they are ok, just wanted to write stumpy Re: Our Piazza Dream Home ;) 19Aug 28, 2011 2:08 pm Congrats on starting your build we are about the same stage as you, just a little in front, up in the hills your plans and contract should state how wide your eaves are - we have none at the front but 450mm all the way round the rest. Ours is a normal roof pitch though. I hear you about customer liaisons. They are pretty tragic, whoever you build with Cassie 28/7/11 - Slabbed 15/8/11 - Framed 19/9/11 - LOCKED UP! 6/10/11 - Kitchen in! 11/11/11 - It's all OURS!
