Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 16, 2011 10:55 pm I am considering removing an old in ground swimming pool and also demolishing the house so I can build a new house in its place which will go over where once the pool was. Has anyone done anything similar and are there any concerns in regards to building over a swimming pool that was removed and filled in. Are there any specific gotchas to watch out for? Thanks Chris Re: Removing a swimming pool and then building over it 2Aug 17, 2011 12:55 am It's very common, the demolition company will generally remove it for you as part of the demolition if that's what you want. You will need to arrange for extra clean soil to fill in the hole from the pool, and the area to be properly compacted. You may need more extra soil once compaction is complete, because the levels in the old pool area may need to be brought up again. Sometimes the demo company can arrange the fill and compaction, but the builder will often want to check the compaction later anyway. The last home I lived in didn't have a pool and when i went to sell it the agents were not happy, even telling me to put one in to sell the place.
