Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 15, 2011 1:51 pm Hi just signed a land contract subject to finance, very excited but nervous too. Just wondering what other's experiences building with fairmont around the fleurieu penninsula were like. Also im very curious about how the preliminary stages work and the steps before slab gets poured etc. Anyone who can inform me? Re: building for the first time 2Aug 15, 2011 9:23 pm Hi, Welcome to the building journey, it can be very stressful & exciting at the same time . I can promise you that this will be quite an experience. Talking from my experience, we built a single storey house 20 years ago, when we moved in, we vowed we would never attempt to build again, but 20 yrs later, & none the wiser, we got the itch to build a bigger house, this experience though has not been smooth sailing, so my advice to you is shop around & before you sign with any builder, make sure you do your research & browse a forum such as this one & read up on what current customers are saying about the builder you're thinking of going with. ok, b4 the slab is poured, they have to " bench " the site, then they have to do the piers, then depending on whether you're having a " waffle " slab ( blocks of strong foam that support the slab ) then the concrete is poured, it then needs to "cure" for a couple of weeks. I hope this helps. Re: building for the first time 3Aug 15, 2011 10:04 pm Congratulations on acquiring some land. Not sure what Fairmont are like in the Fleurieu Peninsula. Have you chosen a plan? After signing our contract, a soil report was done and we received a footings variation in the mail to sign. About 3 months after signing we had our selections appointment at Direct Interiors followed by a kitchen selections appointment at Supreme Kitchens. It's best to look at the selections before these appointments and know what you want. Then we received a letter saying that council approval had been obtained. We called the office and booked in for a final interview. Your site will get pegged, trenches will get dug and then your slab poured. Re: building for the first time 4Aug 17, 2011 3:38 pm Yeah we,ve looked around for bout six months at builders, fairmont seem more value for money. My brother built his place and told me he wont build again coz the builder stuffed up so much. But im hoping itll be smoother for us. Going with the toulonthe toulon modified.
