Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 14, 2011 7:33 pm Hi all My partner, Matt and I own a 2 and a half block of land about 20 minutes outside of Geelong. It is a long thin block, 50metres wide and about 250m long. The blcok runs basically north-south, and at the south end is on top of an escarpment, which then drops 20m down to a river. We overlook the river and then across farm land to the otways. We have built a shed already, about half way along the block on the eastern side of the block. We are currently getting some plans drafted, with the idea that we will have a kit put together and then Matt and I will build it ourselves. The idea is that we will build it in three sections - the first section will be the easten most pod which will contain three bedrooms, a rumpus room, laundry and bathroom. We will put the kitchen in the laundry to begin with. The other two 'pods' will then be built when we can afford them. Our drafter has been very good in terms of looking at our needs as well as trying to attain a seven star energy rating for us. The eastern pod is how it will be built, the kitchen has to be changed on the middle pod, and the western pod is being completly redesigned. The place will be clad in corry and v-board. Oh, and the deck is also being changed. Have a look what you think - would love suggestions too!! http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/h336/annesna/houseplans.jpg http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/h336/annesna/block.jpg http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/h336/annesna/elevations.jpg http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/h336/annesna/views.jpg We are building as close to the south most boundary as we are allowed, which is about 30 metres back, and we will have grass on both the north and south sides. I need lots of windows to watch our twin boys, who are as despearte to get out to the block as we are. looking forward to your ideas and thoughts, Anna Re: House plans - what do you think? 3Aug 14, 2011 8:04 pm Hi anna, Are you building near Inverleigh? We lived in Winchelsea for a few years! The plan looks fantastic. Deemaree - we are building in Inverleigh, on the Bannockburn side. We love it there. Glad you like the plans. I have friends building in Bannockburn, and I'm just up the midland hwy in Ballarat. Goodluck with your build, looking forward to watching it grow. Circa early to mid 90s would be my guess and maybe even as late as early 2000s 1 6623 Really tight at the top of the stairs- how to get furniture into those rooms? Study books - does anyone really use them these days? Large storage closet would be more functional. 2 6882 6 11528 |
