Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 13, 2011 1:53 pm We are building a house with a portico which has a light in it and are wondering what other people have put in theirs. Also what lights have you put in your bedrooms and study. I am having trouble trying to decide on what to put in these rooms as all of the living areas will have downlights in them as well as entry and hallways. I was thinking something fancy in the portico as we have downlights in our entry area and cant do anything spectacular. Or is a double front door going to be enough. Thanks guys in advance Contract signed - March 7,2011 Site Cut - May 6, 2011 Pre slab plumbing - 19th May, 2011 Slab - 10th June, 2011 Our thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=45044 Re: Lighting ideas 2Aug 13, 2011 7:42 pm Hi Bindi We have double front doors also and just have a downlight in the portico but we also have stainless steel up/down lights on our stackstone piers. I am not much help with bedrooms. I still have the plastic handover light fittings in mine. Note to self: GET LIGHT FITTINGS FOR THE BEDROOMS!!!!! Re: Lighting ideas 3Aug 15, 2011 9:20 pm Ok apaprently we are getting just a globe in the portico so will need something to cover that up. and i want the up down lights along the house. I have had a look online but not much for porticos that are special ones. I think the double door will be spectacular. What is your entrance hall like? You could jazz that up with a nice mirror and "entry hall table", then people wont be looking at the ceiling. Studywise, I would have white light (as opposed to your typical warm yellow light), maybe some soft of oyster, but this depends on the layout and size of your room. You may need some sort of task lighting Bedrooms are for fun, I wouldnt worry about this until its time to decorate, then you can pick something that matches the style of the room. Re: Lighting ideas 5Aug 17, 2011 2:24 pm thanks alt i think we will be waiting till we have all the rooms furnished to work out what type of light fittings. At least its only the bedrooms and study we have to worry about. I was thinking of having a mirror at the end of the hallway from the door so people can look at themselves thru the glass in the door, and possibly a hall table with maybe some fake flowers or something on it. I was then thinking maybe we should have something to hang coats and jackets on in the hallway since we have a pretty big one. Im sure it will look spectacular. I love mirrors in entrance halls. Isnt a mirror infront of the entry door supposed to keep evil and mischevious spirits out?? Re: Lighting ideas 7Aug 21, 2011 5:12 pm LOl i have no idea on the mirror keeping evil out ... or is it keeping it in lol ha ha ha We have a bath that is boxed in we have been going in and giving it a clean up since they straightened the frame there has been a bit of mess inside. I know they probably do it but we couldnt help ourselves. I think we will wait till we get in the house before we go decorating it... but if i find some outside lights on sale i will grab them. We had a look at clive peeteers last weekend but they didnt have much in the way of what we wanted... were looking for a new microwave as ours is 15 years old and starting to not work so well. We will also get one more tv for our lounge and some lounges. Will see how many points we have on the credit card and probably get a gift card for harvey norman.
