To render or not to re 76Sep 12, 2011 2:59 pm Definitely prefer the Mallee brick, particularly because it kinda links back to the traditional stone houses that I associate with rustic country living - bit like this kinda style you see in areas like the Barossa or any older settled area of Australia. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ In WA, you see a lot of the the limestone look bricks used (probably because they are aiming for the convict era sandstone house look) but it's really overdone I think and doesn't really resemble the convict era old houses because the bricks are too modern and uniform. One thing I have noticed is that a lot of the limestone look bricks on older houses really show up stains/weathering and end up looking unattractive after a while (not sure if this has to do with brick quality not as good 20 years ago) or lighter bricks in general... If you have ever been to Elmars brewery in the Swan valley they have a light sandstone brick with a farmhouse kinda front and IMHO I don't think it works that good even though it's clearly a more fancy textured large format brick than regular. http://www.elmars.com.au/Meet-Elmar/History.aspx Re: Our little piece of Bedfordale... To render or not to re 77Sep 12, 2011 3:03 pm Oh yes i know Jenx, boy have i given them afew headaches with asking questions You are on waterwheel rd nth i've been trying to think where you are,i think i roughly know If you go off waterwheel to the second street on the right(coming from hwy end) these blocks are on the left as you go around the corner staying on the same street. Gee hope you follow i'm not good at directions .These blocks slope back in & connect to the blocks on waterwheel at the front Hang on,the dam,mmm yes i know where that is,next time out there i will have a sqiz. I think the horse riding place is close to both your houses, daughter will start there when we move. Thanks soakedblonde,i have been in pains over the window colour (still am ) Friends were very surprised at the block we picked but we had our own reasons & they pretty much suit your blocks too which were not open when we bought. Our reason was that all the other blocks bar 1 that we liked but had just sold are all surrounded by houses. House after house....... The block has 3 blocks next to it & even though we look across the road to a house it is faraway,we also look towards the forrest & trees, much nicer....... I think your's are alittle the same,no-one behind you & more houses going up the little hill than you sitting amongst then all. Block bought 1st RBC X! 2nd Ventrua,Keeper! To render or not to re 78Sep 12, 2011 3:45 pm sorry KA you've got me completely lost! My street is the one where the sales office is. there's a little park and dam and a circle of blocks. 2 houses are going up at the moment. About half of the blocks have sold. Didn't know of a horse stable?!! It's funny with blocks. At our old house we had a neighbour only on one side. I said I didn't want to move because of that. Now we have a massive block with a neighbour only on one side! So, it was meant to be. It was the only block we considered and just knew it was ours. I guess you feel like that about yours - we all have reasons why we fall in love with the one we do soakedblonde, just had a look and also love the mallee bricks. We are going with the Austral Leonora, which is a darkish red/brown brick. Re: Our little piece of Bedfordale... To render or not to re 80Sep 12, 2011 4:18 pm chuffy is in the same street as me KA - we were originally keen on her block due to the wonderful views but then decided the shape didn't suit our plans with the shed, pool, etc. It's lucky cause from the sounds of it chuffy would put up a fight Hubby fell in love with our block because he wanted to be hidden away but it seems like that may have backfired - the development next door has put all their fences up and two of the blocks back onto ours so we will now have 4 neighbours I am assuming they will have the same sort of building envelopes as us and therefore won't be able to build too close to our fence. I was a little annoyed that all the trees/shrubs were removed on their blocks as I think it ruined the look of blocks (and our privacy) but oh well, what can you do?
