External color - too brave?

Hi all,

Although building started, but still don't feel confident with colors selected. Hope get advice here

Front elevation - facing east, with view:

Brick: Bianca Presto (double hight brick)
Roof: Paprika
Window: Merino
Garage Door: Paper Bark
Gutter/fascia: Manor Red

What do you think of the colors above?

My color consultant suggests to paint the posts and balcony handrail with the same color as roof. Is it too brave?

It hasn’t been called that name for a couple of years now!???

“Marino” is now called “Paperbark” yet she got the name right for the garage door.

Is your home going to have a country feel to it?

Couldn't find the picuture online, and color is not right from my scanner. I don't have 3D evelation either.

To be honest, I have no idea what looks like. What's country feel looks like? Would you please give me some example links?

Where can I get the roof color, Paprika?

Love to see the colors put together.

What do you think of painting the pole and balcony handrail the same color of roof, paprika?

Without the color consultant I might paint them similar color to the wall or garage door, maybe paperbark again.

Aulyna_1…I’m a little surprised you don’t know what the colour of your roof is!!!!

Did you not get shown samples of all the chosen selections?
Bad mistake to go ahead with colours if you have not seen them.

By country I mean heritage colours

This is a typical Australian look and with heritage colours.

Now my suggestion to you is to go back to your colour consultant and get her to get you samples of the chosen selection so you can see them. This is how colour consulting is done.

I’m am brain dead from a long meeting today, but I will try and work it out for you.

It doesn’t look right to me!

I selected the roof color from tile supplier. The standard tile range only has few color to choose from.

As I want the double height bricks, and only like the Bianca (creamy color?). As the brick color is light, so I think the roof should heavy color to have some contrast. I don't like black either. At last there were only two colors to choose from: Salsa and Paprika.

Salsa looks a bit too yellowish, the only option for me is Paprika.

This is my first building, have no idea what it looks like with different colors get together. Your help is VERY MUCH appreciated.

Aulyna… you just answered my question about your bricks.

Ok now you have given me more info with the bricks it helps to see the colours.

All looks ok, only I agree with you by painting the balcony and handrail in the paperbark.

You also need to think about your front door. Possibly the paperbark as well.

Our aluminium window supplier uses Merino as their Paperbark equivalent colour name ... it is very slightly different in colour.

Depends who the supplier of the windows are….if they are using Dulux Powder Coatings for the windows, then it will be the paperbark.

Comes back to the supplier I guess.

From memory the roof of this house is Paprika.
Roof: Paprika
Brick: Austral Lawson
Gutter/fascia (upper): Manor Red
Gutter/fascia (lower): Wattyl Plain Tree
Render: Wattyl Chino

We have the Manor Red gutters and Merino windows.

Brick: Renovation Red
Roof: Terracotta
Window: Merino
Garage Door: Paperbark (will be, sorry, maybe next week!)

Gutter/fascia (lower): Plain Tree
Render: Half strength Turkish Bread (doesn't really look that pink)
Verandah posts & fretwork: Manor Red

You are right; I’ll paint the balcony and handrail in the paperbark. That's my original plan. After see the consultant, I couldn’t make decision any more, as I thought ALL consultant MUST have better taste than I do. :wink:

With your style of double storey house and double height bricks it can take really bold, more modern colours (unlike our style of house - I've seen it built with green roof tiles ... ick! Thanks for pointing out the finials Michelle ... I could actually really live without them!! :lol:

).

Have you thought about the blue/grays (not black)? With your brick colour a flat profile dark roof tile can look really good.

If you are having trouble visualising the final colour combination then you should play around with some home design software ... or photoshop.

That's OK - our house does look a bit short and squat in photos (bit like the owners :lol:

). Think all that extra height and width on the garage doesn't help matters... everyone who sees are photos are quite surprised when they actually drive up to the place. Like John Howard, taller than it seems!

I actually agree with your colour consultant and think the balcony railing could work well painted Manor Red or Paprika.
Are you building a standard design? Best thing is to just drive around new estates for a few hours and check out any similar houses. Just don't completely copy one of your neighbours!

Sorry Michelle, but I'm a geek!!

You should have seen the final photoshop version of our place ... all the bricks and tiles were in proportion, everything else was neatly coloured. Had it all set up to just select different layers to change colour versions. Very, very sad ... especially when you just end up with fairly standard colours anyway! :lol:

I gave up on My Virtual Home etc, it just had too many glitches and was too fiddly to get anything done. Beware that once you get the hang of photoshop you will be an addict for life.

Don't know if I captured the brick colour right.

Aulyna, tell me what colours you want where and i'll tweak the picture to suit. Don't know what colours you want the front door or columns so I left them blank.
