Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 07, 2011 8:51 pm Hi Guys
We are building our first home and have completed the slab and part framing as photo below, roof truss half 1/3 way through progress and some brick work has also started on the garage area and each side of house. After several weeks clean weather, we had rain whole day yesteray and expect to have four days more rain next week. Got some concerns and hope someone can help me out whether I need to mention those to the builder: 1. Is the rain (plus four more days rain) going to have significant impact on the timber frame since we have not got our roof tiles on frames are totally expose to the rain? http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/h369/umehomes/-20110806047.jpg 2. Is it the right procedure to start some brick work while roof truss still not complete? 3. See the brick work at garage area, is it normal no timber frame in the garage area but only brick? Brick layer said they will build additional brick column to support roof truss on garage therefore no timber frame. http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/h369/umehomes/-20110806040.jpg 4. Finally, we identified little crack mark on slab on the rear bedroom, approx 20cm long like pic below, is it serious? http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/h369/umehomes/-20110806002.jpg Thanks heaps Re: Framing stage concerns, anyone can help me? 2Aug 07, 2011 9:08 pm All your concerns are normal in a brick veneer build. Looks good so far and nothing to worry about! It stayed that way for about 18 months before the whole receivership thing was sorted and another builder took over. By the time that builder took over the once nice yellowish pine frames had turned an ugly grey from the weather. The roof went on, the bricks went up and she is now complete. Not a house I would have liked to live in, but a good chippy can fix things to counteract warping and twisting. Re: Framing stage concerns, anyone can help me? 5Aug 07, 2011 9:49 pm I will ask the builder to re focus on the roof truss next week and hope they can finish it soon. Before tiles on, I would like to have framing stage inspection just make sure everything is Ok. But still, at the moment, if you are experienced with building, thanks for your advices for my original queries. Thanks for all replies.
