Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building Switch 830 home in Meve - We have a roof 28/10 41Nov 09, 2011 6:42 pm Moving right along!!! Went to house today and they have installed all the windows and sliding doors and glazed them. Was quite surprised because I thought this would happen a bit further down the schedule but not complaining . Also the gyprock guys were there doing the patching and cornices. Two on them were running around on stilts, never seen them before. Though I was in a science fiction movie. See below Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ More photos this weekend. Things have been going pretty slow. Builder has had changes in SS and seems they have been slow to get trades coordinated. Plastering completed, vanity in both bathrooms and laundry cupboards installed. Doors not yet hung. Painter commenced today to do ceilings and doors. Spoke to painter on site today and seems that new SS has asked him to come do our job urgently as a favour because they had been dragging the chain for a while - hopefully the new SS is on the ball. Having tiling meeting this week when we can agree a time to meet. Tiles have been sitting there for over a week. Not expecting to be in before March now by the looks of it because after handover we are having a timber floor put in right through home and they say that is a 4 week process. Despite all the delays and going slow we are really impressed with the trades and workmanship. Every trade we have spoken to speaks highly of the company and each of the SS we have had so as far as I am conerned that is the main thing. Prefer to be a bit slower and have a good job - going to be in the house a long time as this is my last house so they will have to carry me out of it in a pine box one day so want it to be a good job. Son just advised that he and fiancee who are in Canada at the moment will be coming back when the ski season finishes over there and want to stay with us for a few months - the might be sleeping in the garage for a while at this rate!!!! Am not going to go into our issues but fair to say that we are totally disillusioned with Switch Homes for Living and would not recommend them to anyone. Are you in or still trying to get it done? Sorry to hear about your bad experience. We're just starting our journey, however not with Switch Homes but still very nervous about the whole process. That is just another of my gripes with them. All I can say is keep on them. if you are havin issues then seriously consider having an independant building inspector. Might cost a bit but I wish i had gone down that path now. Re: Building Switch 830 home - Finished - photos 55Apr 28, 2012 10:26 am Wow, your home is lovely, love the use of timber and the built in cabinets. Your kitchen is stunning, I love your pendants, almost bought the same ones for our kitchen! I hope once you are settled in all the problems with your build become a distant memory and don't leave too much of a sour taste. Congratulations! We are really pleased wit the end result, just the drama to get there. Tinkster - the wall unit was done by a cabinet maker we had used once before about 10 years ago. They did a fabulous job, very meticulous and had some great ideas in their custom design. Lawn - insisted that lawn go down before we moved in. Did not want continual sand being walked through the house as much as possible. Floor - it is East Coast Blackbutt planks - direct stick. We have timber right throughout the house except for wet areas. My wife used to have bad dust alergies. When we ripped up all our carpet 15 years ago and put in timber her allergies went away. It is amazing how much dirst and dust is collected in carpets. Boganswife - The pendant lights were actually a "giveaway" that Switch were offering when we signed up. We hadn't even seen them at the time and all they could show us was a not very clear advertising photo so we were not really sure what they would look like or how they would turn out. But they really set the kitchen off well.
