Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 02, 2011 11:32 pm Hi Everyone! I found this site looking to see about how long from lock up it would be until we get our keys, and wow! So many stories and nice pics to look at for other people building! Its so exciting! My fiance and I are building out in a town called Muchea (about 40-50 mins from Perth). We just received our 2nd to last progress payment, and have one left! Its really starting to get exciting! Well, hello everyone, and I hope to speak with many of you and look at your pics of building as well! Re: Buidling our first home - Red Ink - Muchea 2Aug 02, 2011 11:44 pm Hmmm... a bit more information is that this is our first home. We have been living with my fiance's mother for about 4 years now so we could be in a position to go straight out and start our own house rather than rent. I hated the idea at first, but it has definately paid off! Our block is in a rural residental townsite - and we have arounf 5,500 sq metres (about and acre and half or so). The house is a 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom. I think it was the complete 250 but I made heaps of changes. Everything with the builder has been fantastic so far! We chose them because we knew a handful of others who had built with them and they were happy with the builder as well. We are quite a busy pair. At 23 yrs old, my fiance has finished his apprenticeship and is now working away. I am working as an accountant and going to uni full time as well, and we have our wedding planned for January 7th 2012. I don't think much more could be fit into this year! I want to come, but I will be at work... He was going to do a mock handover then as well! I asked for us to have another look Friday afternoon so I can come and look. So we have a mock handover Friday! wow! so excited! I cant wait, not long now! We bought a fridge and washer the other week from a friend - so I think we can now survive in the house! yay Our House Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=50042 Re: Buidling our first home - Red Ink - Muchea 5Aug 13, 2011 7:08 pm Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This is our layout - which is fairly similar to the original plan with minor changes. We have put the doors on the WIR for the master bedroom so be nex to the bathroom - and the guest bathroom had to be extended to fit in a bigger bath tub Our House Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=50042 Re: Buidling our first home - Red Ink - Muchea 6Aug 19, 2011 11:33 am Hi lirpa1 I love your plan, especially the bigger tub and the fact that the theatre doesn't open onto the living area. I wanted to change our plans so that out theatre opened into our hallway but hubby didn't like that idea. What are your colour selections for kitchen and bathrooms? I am really starting to stress about colours and we haven't even got to the stage of signing our building contract yet lol Our custom Gemmill Home in Bedfordale WA Build thread:https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=53788 Timeline on page 1 Re: Buidling our first home - Red Ink - Muchea 7Aug 20, 2011 1:15 pm Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Clearing it ready for some action Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Water tank man filling up our builders tank! Our House Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=50042 Re: Buidling our first home - Red Ink - Muchea 9Aug 23, 2011 5:42 pm When the builders were laying the footings, two ended up cracking and they were fixed. Now we have small cracks in the area where one of the footings was cracked at the beginning up at the top of the wall in the bricks... Does anyone know what the biulders will do about this? Our House Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=50042 Re: Buidling our first home - Red Ink - Muchea 10Aug 26, 2011 9:33 pm Went in today and the garage door is on, the front door is painted, the floor tiling is nearly done, the stove and oven have been delivered with the rangehood, and the power points etc have been put in! All very exciting, just hoping that everything keeps falling into place so that we can get the keys soon enough! I am a bit worried aboutthe walls not being sealed/ painted when we move in and would take any suggestions on this topic if anyone feels like replying, but i dont seem to be having much luck in that area on my thread..... I'm just unsure if being there with the walls as is for a few weeks will be ok or damaging? I will probably seal the master bedroom first and the bathroom - followed by the main living areas over the next few weeks and then the last few rooms eventually - im just worried if us being there will damage it? I think it should be ok... well i hope anyhow! All is very exciting. cant wait to move in with my DF Our House Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=50042 Buidling our first home - Red Ink - Muchea 11Aug 27, 2011 1:27 am Just found your thread, so close to being done you must be very excited. Our walls in te master bed were unsealed for over 8 years in our current home so I'm sure a few months won't do any harm! In fact, the longer you can leave them to dry out the better as far as I'm aware. my new build thread- Ben Trager https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=89826 my switch build thread (2011) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36569 Re: Buidling our first home - Red Ink - Muchea 12Aug 27, 2011 1:32 am Oh thanks Tinkster! Some people were saying that without sealing first, the walls would flake and powder would go everywhere and everything So if yours were ok im sure ours will be fine for a few months Our House Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=50042 Buidling our first home - Red Ink - Muchea 13Aug 27, 2011 2:43 am They are a little chalky for a little while but only if you rub against them, it's not like they flake off. Most people I spoke to about it last time said better to wait a while, so take your time, the sealer is a bastard thing to do anyway. my new build thread- Ben Trager https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=89826 my switch build thread (2011) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36569 Re: Buidling our first home - Red Ink - Muchea 14Aug 30, 2011 9:31 pm Well I asked yesterday for a finish time, and while we still dont have "the date" she said that we have about 2-3 weeks for 50% of finalising and then 2 weeks after that to get teh keys! wow! Im not sure if I should be really happy or what? It just seems crazy! I peeked in our windows today ad the kitchen wall tiles have started. I couldn't see too much though as I was locked out come on handover! Oh another surprise! we recieved some information in the mail today saying that we so far have a $3,500 credit! That nearly covers the upgrades so yay! more money for the wedding! Our House Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=50042 Buidling our first home - Red Ink - Muchea 15Aug 30, 2011 10:19 pm Gotta love a credit like that! my new build thread- Ben Trager https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=89826 my switch build thread (2011) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36569 Re: Buidling our first home - Red Ink - Muchea 16Aug 31, 2011 9:40 am It's getting close now, it must be so exciting I'm glad you asked about the walls because we weren't planning on painting ours straight away either.
