Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 31, 2011 11:50 pm Hey guys, New to all this and have found the forum very helpful for loads of things, thought I should contribute some stuff of our own. Block settled a few weeks ago and have just been out today to get an idea of where to put the house. We have a 3,500m2 block and a buch of Gum Trees to dodge. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We have paid a $1,000 deposit on the Harvard with DFH and have already been thinking about Bricks, Roof etc. So far have been leaning towards Boral Mocha Bricks and a Colorbond Ironstone roof. Would be interested to hear any thoughts or ideas. Cheers Re: Building DF Harvard @ Ascot (Bendigo) 2Aug 01, 2011 4:21 pm Have you visited the Big M website yet? They have some software you can use to play around with internal and external colours. I believe you need to register on their website. I'm told they'll be getting started on our house next month, which is exciting. How's your build coming along? Couple of updates - colour selection as follows: Roof / Gutter - Colorbond Ironbark Fascia - Colorbond Dune Bricks - Boral Kurrajong Windows - A & L Jasper Garage Door - B & D Colourgrain Caoba Dawn - w/ front door stained to match. Internals: Ceiling & Cornice - Flat White Walls - Wattyl Flokati Timber - Wattyl Flokati The Flokati is basically white, with the plan to add some further colour with feature walls which we will sort out later in the build. Kitchen: Benchtop - Wilsonart Limestone Verticals - Wilsonart Zircon Shimmer (Wood Inspired) Kickboard - Wilsonart Zircon Shimmer (Fine Stipple) Splashback - Southern Cross Glass Tile Lagoon Colour (Aqua Blue) w/ White Grout Bathroom & Ensuite: Benchtop - Wilsonart Sunstone Verticals - Wilsonart Wallaby Tile: Not sure what the Tile was, we got it from TheTilePeople in Bendigo, it's a white - grey blend pattern, where apparently each Tile is unique. it's 450 x 450 in size and we are going to run it up the walls in the wet areas. With the only exception being a small strip of mosaic tiles under the Mirror in the Bathroom. Carpet: Carpetcall - Diamonds are Forever - Vail colour Looking forward to seeing it all come together in the flesh now. Couple of other things to report (turns out I did have some updating to do, but have been slack): The House Pad has since been completed (see photos) and we also made some alterations to the plans by changing the Bathroom around (see plan) - we have pushed the Bath back into the smaller WIR of the Main Bedroom, shifted the Shower into the opposite corner, removing the door from the 2nd bedroom and turned the single vanity into a double vanity. I must say the one thing I never liked about original plan was the bathroom, so I think these changes will make it more pleasant (albeit I have now lost half of my WIR). Oh and not to forget, we also changed the Kitchen, by shifting the Fridge away from the Pantry. We also added Cupboards above the Oven (see Kitchen Plan) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ House Pad Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Floor Plan Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Kitchen Plan Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Block Layout Re: Building DF Harvard @ Ascot (Bendigo) 6Apr 23, 2012 9:30 pm Hi Jamessherry well ours still has not started as we had delays yet again with the land from the developer grrrrrr anyways as of 30th April we finally have land settlement so then things can really start. i will take a pick of some of the changes we made and upload them on my blog warning though i may not get around to it for another week or so. I like the idea of what you did with the 2nd WIR, i was thinking about taking that out all together and doing a cnr spa.... but thats as far as it got a though hahahaha i am glad things are coming along for you guys Building The Harvard 271 With Dennis Family Homes My Blog http://www.ourhouseinwallan.blogspot.com My Thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=51625&p=789135#p7891353 Re: Building DF Harvard @ Ascot (Bendigo) 7Apr 25, 2012 1:14 pm Agh the frustration of waiting for settlement, thankfully we weren't in any great hurry, but it still seemed to take forever. I had toyed with a similar idea of removing the whole robe, but the budget couldn't suffer the big bath. I must add that the only real costs for our current bath design was going from single to double vanity, so wasn't terribly expensive. Looking forward to seeing your blog update and bring on April 30! Re: DF Harvard @ Ascot (Bendigo) - SITE PREP NEARLY COMPLETE 8May 21, 2012 7:05 pm So the excitement of house building has now officially kicked off. 2 weeks in to our official build period and we so far have almost got ourselves a slab.. Re: DF Harvard @ Ascot (Bendigo) BRICKED UP - NOW PLASTER 12Jun 28, 2012 5:08 pm Some further updates, went through with the Electrcian and Plumber and made all the extra changes that I wanted. The brickies have done a fabulous job and we finally get to see what our exterior colour choices have come up with. Only hiccup with the build so far is related to the Kitchen. Got a call from our Kitchen Builder to advise that the style of the Kitchen Cupboard was offered by mistake, despite us paying extra in the contract for it. Apparently the Cupoboard verticals we chose had to imprinted on the Board or something, anyway, we had to go into the Kitchen Builder and choose new colours, ended up choosing different Benchtops as well as Verticals and Kickboards and if I'm being honest, I actually prefer the new colours. Other than that, the build is coming along amazingly quickly at the moment and the weather is really no longer a factor, so far only costing us half a day of brickwork. Spoke with the Builder last week and he suggested we were still 8 weeks away from hand over, which puts us right in the middle of his initial estimate build time of 20 - 24 weeks. I'm hoping it will be a bit sooner than that, but we'll see how we go. The build has reached that boring lock-up stage where nothing much seems to happen on a daily basis. Painters are currently in and today they plumbed all the downpipes. Will hopefully get a chance to go through the House shortly, when the painter is finished and get some photos of the Bathroom and Kitchen fit-out along with the Paint. Still can't wait to see all the inside colours come together with Tiles and Carpets, hopefully we'll be as happy with inside colours as we are with the exterior. Will keep you posted with some photos very shortly hopefully.. Glass tiled splashback has been installed and Grouted. As for the external, the Alfresco area has now been concreted and the Garage Door has no been installed (enter our second hiccup of the build so far and potentially the one that will bite a bit). The Garage Door that has been installed does not match the original colour that was initially selected in our colour selections (being only two Colorbon Timbagrain variations - either Caoba Dawn or Classic Cedar). I initially liked the look of the Classic Cedar colour sample, but the colour consultant actually advised us to pick the Caoba Dawn, as the only people she had pick the Classic Cedar weren't pleased with it. I took her advice and chose Caoba Dawn. However after all our variations went off for final costing, the returned color variations listed the door as being Classic Cedar. As I hadn't been advised that this had changed and frankly didn't fully read the whole document (or if I did I didn't pick up on it) I signed off the sheet complete with the official colour variations and prices. I immediately notified our SS that the Door was the wrong colour, but upon looking at the contract, found that it in fact the contract had changed without my knowledge. Hopefully we can get this changed and get the other Door fitted without any cost to us, but it's looking like there might be a bit of argy-bargy and they have a signed document, so you can bet who is going to win that one.. Will keep you posted.
