Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 28, 2011 4:43 pm My husband and I planned to build our dream house over 2 year ago. Married 25 years, 4 kids leaving home at various stages. Time for us, a 'Grown Up' house. Someone wasn't reading the script. My husband was killed in a road accident last year. At first I wasn't going to build the house. Even rang the company and told them to cancel. 9 months on I've had a rethink. He would have wanted me to build. I'm going to make our dream come true. I've had the tender prepared, made some simple changes (ones we talked about) and now I'm just waiting on the contract. I'm not deviating from our dream except I no longer need a double garage/workshop down the back for his motorbikes. This forum is a way for me to document the build.

Re: Building alone 7Jul 28, 2011 6:03 pm ooow, that is so sad. what a shock for you and the kids. Someone didnt hand you the new plan to sign obviously....I would be asking for a re play, with a different ending. seeing you didnt sign it off! good luck with your home, he would have wanted you to have been in a nice brand new home that you both had planned. my hubby has felt he was being pushed to build our home and get our family sorted (we have 5 kids) as he doesnt feel he will be living in the house long, but wants us to be ok in the future (big life insurance on him I tell ya to pay for said house as I aint working!! I too havent signed off on any deviations, it is just a feeling he has) I wish you well and that you enjoy the ride. I am sure he will be near, helping you get through it all. we are all here too....so spout off when you need to all the best, and GOOOOOOOD LUCK!!! They are each on their own journey in life. The youngest started UNSW this year. However, they will always visit and our block is 2364 sqs so a small house would look odd.
