Another question regarding concreting around the house, anyone done it with PD as part of the slab? I reckon it generally around 900mm wide all around the house. We want to get this done, but not sure if go with PD for this as part of slab (expensive option) or after handover by joe blog (cheaper option). Hey Guys I'm behind in my reading but catching up... The good thing about reading later is that your blogs are far more up to date with pics. The bad things is that some homes are off the PD site when I want to check them out after reading some comments. Back to the concreting, we moved in in June to the muddiest site ever, and didn't get the concrete apron installed until about April. We had a huge alfresco so had the use of outdoors, but it meant no access from the laundry or garage doors. We have a few dogs who ran from one side gate to the other so they needed their feet washed before coming in each night. My advice is to plan and install the concrete apron asap so you can really start enjoying you home more, esp if handover is in the winter months. It was about 3k for all the work I had done, but I didn't really appreciate the outside of the house until it was done. We all seem to have money for a new sofa, dining table or tv, but forget the outside... but do it as soon as you can. Enjoy all M Re: Porter Davis homes 9885Jun 30, 2014 11:08 am ![]() ![]() does anyone know how to clean paint off of carpet? We have a fair few paint and plaster issues, peeling grout in the shower, cracked mail box, but thats about it. I want to complain that the grass and landscaping was just done straight into the construction rubble in the front yard, no weed mat or top soil was brought in, and there is concrete from the slab over-pour that is in the way of us landscaping. Would these things be rectified? Is there anything else people would recommend me looking for? Thanks, Brian Re: Porter Davis homes 9889Jun 30, 2014 2:29 pm ![]() Hi All, We have our three month inspection in a couple of weeks and just wondering what sort of things people have brought up. Thanks, Brian I have to say lucky you... we just moved in this weekend and I already have a list of things that are wrong. All minor details but there is a lot of them. I think there will be more once I manage to clean everything up, I was too busy cleaning the paint drops on my stone benchtop! Re: Porter Davis homes 9890Jun 30, 2014 2:57 pm Hi guys, We are first time builders building with PD in the Western Suburbs. We have had a mixed experience with them so far. Our initial meetings (Sales/Tender) were very good. They took us through all the extras and additional costs and were very flexible about our requirements. Once the build started, we have had a very different experience. We have had 2 changes in BCs and 3 changes in SSs so far and were not informed of the change in most cases until we called to check on the build. Our build has already been delayed by a month and our PCI has been scheduled once and cancelled due to rectifications being required. At the moment, we are trying to get our electricals rectified. In most cases, the switchboards and socketboards are not centered horizontally or aligned vertically. The wall lamps are too low in some locations and too high in others. They have moved the location of one of our socketboards from an adjacent wall and placed it on our glass splashback!!! At the time of our electrical appointment, we asked for exact locations of the lights/boards etc and were told that the "experienced" electricians would ensure that they were positioned appropriately. I understand the need for some flexibility in positioning (due to pipes, etc) but the positioning just looks arbitrary and careless. I am very unhappy about one of the socket boards being placed on the splash back (which is a deviation from our electrical plan) because we spent a lot of money on the splash back. Our SS has agreed to change the location of the wall lamps but says he cannot change the location of the switch/socket boards and will not replace the splash back. Have any of you had a similar issue and had any luck in getting it sorted out? I am just so disappointed with PD and the lack of communication and respect for the client. I would advice anyone building with PD to schedule daily checks with the SS when the electricals are being done. Re: Porter Davis homes 9893Jul 01, 2014 6:53 am Thanks Filthyfil. Also, we have got quad on our flooring even though we got it done by Porter Davis. Is that normal for all builds? Shouldn't they have discussed it with us before installing the floors? Re: Porter Davis homes 9894Jul 01, 2014 11:24 am Hi all, I'm planning to do the evap cooling after handover. What should I tell PD about this such as providing a capped cold water point and single GPO for future evap cooling unit? Also, does anyone have an idea on how much I'm looking at if I want to upgrade to aluminum stacker door (2100 x 5000mm wide) in lieu of standard sliding door (2100 x 3000mm wide)? I'd definitely incorporate those things in your build . Would cost you loads more to get trades in to add those post build. It cost us $3,232 to upgrade to a 2100 x 6400mm sliding aluminium stacker, from a 2100 x 2800. We also opted to go double glazed for the entire house which cost $3200. This was for a regatta 23. But where do I need to tell them install the water point and powerpoint? I think this may depend on the location of the unit itself? Have you chosen a unit yet? If so, I'd be contacting the manufacturer (they may want to see your plans) and asking where they think you should install a water point/power point based on where they think the unit should go.
